He went to boot camp for the Marines or something, but was so dumb that they kicked him out.

He might have gone and transferred to the Navy. I would assume since Marines have a vigorous training they might have allowed to to transfer his time was up. I know if you are in the Marines and want to transfer for the Army you have to go through boot camp all over again, least thats the way it was back in 1988
