Does anyone know if it's possible to edit the random maps do like have dirt roads, more water, or larger citys? or even add new tiles in to them?

Nobody knows.

It might be doable, but the time it'd take to first figure out how and then to actually get it done would be enough to make dozens of maps with FinalSun in the meantime. In other words, it's not worth the effort.

What if somebody likes the random map maker the best? I like a map you cannot predict.

Actually, it is very possible. I've managed to do this quite a few times before. I don't know how though. I'm guessing that sometimes it happens when you make a random map, do a match on it, shut the game off, then it'll be in your directory as RandMap.map or it was something like that.

Well, that's my answer, if your question was if you could edit random maps in the map editor.

I don't think that was his question at all...

And it's impossible to make the random map maker "the best", considering every single thing it's capable of has has to be pre-programmed, which severely limits the amount of detail it can put into a map.
The random map generator won't magically know how shores, cliffs, roads and other tiles should connect to each other; for the tiles it does use it was coded to "know" how to position every single tile from a tileset in relation to one another and the tiles that it does not use can't be used because it has no information concerning how the tiles should be positioned.

I haven't heard of anyone ever looking into coding this himself and this is most likely, like I mentioned before, because it's imply not worth the effort.
As it is, the maps created by the Random Map Generator look far worse than the already somewhat mediocre looking default TS maps and if Westwood was able to make the Random Map Generator create maps that look at least as good as their manually created maps, they would've done so.

Tiles that has RequiredForRMG=yes is used by the RMG to create the maps.

The RMG is hard coded to only use certain tile sets.

Can't be that simple. Even if it told the RMG to use the tile, it still wouldn't have any idea on how it should use the tile (where to place it etc.). Editing the RMG is practically impossible, you'd need lots knowledge and experience of ASM and stuff even then it'd be far from easy (most likely too far for it to be worth it).

TS v1.08 saves the RMG-generated maps in the directory, so they can be edited using FinalSun. But you can edit the RMG itself in no version of TS.
