Me and a friend have got online working perfectly every time, here is how we do it:

You need to spam the chat boxes as much as possible.

You spam in the lobby so you can see each other (not always necessary).

The host creates a game and spams the chat box before players join (this will both make the game appear and stop players from seeing nothing when they come in).

The player joining the game needs to spam the chat box along with the host so that both players recognise each other, otherwise they will not see each other.

Just spam, spam, spam!

This probably has something to do with neither computer recognising the other until a message is sent.

Remember: When in doubt, bash your keyboard like you're getting annoyed at a game that isn't doing as its told.

Also; the captcha to this site is awful.

And make Tiberian lifeforms kill on sight, it's ridiculous getting your base destroyed by a floater because you're off fighting a battle

Where once your high resolution. I also have problems when I want to play with my buddy but only when the resolution is 800 x 600.

We both played on different resolutions. Pick your favourite!

I've heard minimising can affect connectivity, but this method ignores that problem also.

LoL. What?

From PB4 Onwards, online play will be a lot more straight forward than it currently is, though your methods are... strange to say the least.
The resolution issue* I am familiar with but I am unsure what's causing that.

*For some reason if 800x600 or smaller is chosen by a player, their screen seems to freeze and are unable to join any games properly.

They work, I can load up a game on cncnet for us to try if you want.

I am currently using the latest staff version so we wouldn't be able to join each other's games if we tried. None of the staff get any of the aforementioned issues whenever we play online excluding the resolution issue, though I'm not all that familiar with many people whom still decide to use 800x600.

Strange. We were having the same problems as the players in: http://ppmsite.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=31835
So it may help others, we had people joining our games who we can also assume were having the same problem but we couldn't tell them all they needed to do was spam the chat.

Perhaps a sticky for people who are still on the old public version? I swear by this method, it's so good that I put my name on it!

This Fixes the crashing issue many people were having when trying to join games through Cncnet.

Why has it taken so long for a solution! Hopefully more people will start to play this game online.

The novelty of red alert 1 soon wears off.

Myself and the rest of the staff have played countless games online throughout all of the public releases and staff builds without encountering such a problem except for the odd occurring when one player is unable to join a game (which hasn't happened in a very long time now). Non-the-less, I'm still very curious. Confused

FYI: I am not responsible for PPM's retarded captcha.

Based on months of troubleshooting experience in TI staffbuilds aswell as DTA online games, after disabling CnCNet's "Use faster peer-to-peer connection" setting it should work fine without spamming anything.

And the game will crash for minimized players when the host changes the map.
