Help Im stuck (Badly)
Subject description: Mod misbehaving
First off hello everyone (First time posting here)
Secondly I AM using Sunedit 2K (Yes I know some/alot dont like it)
Onto the issue.
I've been messing around with the units ect slowly transforming the GDI side into something else. (Not giving anything away Im afraid)
Anyhow all the units work fine, no issues there.
Then I decided to break up the units a little in the Tech tree. (This is all GDI side only, I HAVE NOT touched NOD)
Took the Radar, Made it look like the upgrade centre, gave it same properties as the GDI upgrade centre and LEFT it as the radar.
Then I copied/clones the threat rating node and hunter seeker control, removed any special abilities they gave, and made them into tech nodes.
One allows teir 2 stuff to be built the other teir 3 stuff.
Changed the Pre-requisits on them accordingly, So you need to build the radar that looks like a upgrade centre before you can build either.
Then went about setting up the pre reqs for the tanks/infantry/aircraft accordingly.
NO OTHER building was touched accept the tech centre, (Made it tech 9 thats all)
So I applied the changes and booted up the game to test it all.
Loaded fine but all I can build is power plants and turbines.
The odd thing is I didnt change the barracks/refinary ect.
This isnt the first time this has happend but it usually happens when im just messing around so i just delete it start again, but this one I been working on for nearly 3 weeks making sure the units are balanced ect.
Anyone know how to fix this !!
Thanks
P.s sorry if this is in the wrong section QUICK_EDIT
Check what the current owner and prerequisite for the tiberium refinery is and take in mind that using upgrades as prerequisites is usually very unreliable.
Also, edit the rules.ini file directly (with a text editor) rather than using SunEdit2K, considering it often messes things up (it can cause problems exactly like this) and it severely limits your modding abilities. Everybody other experienced modder will tell you the same thing.
Using a text editor to edit the rules.ini file might indeed be a little harder, but you'll have complete control over everything you change (unlike with SE2K, things that you didn't touch really won't be altered) and provided you'll keep modding for a while, you'll eventually wanna do things that SE2K is not capable of and you'll then have to learn how to edit rules.ini (and also art.ini) manually with a text editor anyhow.
In other words, if you intend to make your mod more advanced in the future, using a text editor instead of SE2K is inevitable, so learning how to properly mod that way from the start will save you a lot of time and trouble. _________________ QUICK_EDIT
Like I mentioned in my last post, using upgrades as prerequisites is unreliable. Usually it doesn't work and when it does, it only works when the thing that uses the upgrade its prerequisite is available right after the upgrade is built. For example, if a unit has an upgrade as its prerequisite, but the war factory didn't exist yet at the time the upgrade was built, the unit is not going to be available when the upgrade is built; the upgrade will only make the unit available if the war factory already existed at the time the upgrade was built.
Concerning editing the ini files; just open them with a text editor and play around a bit. It's actually pretty straight-forward if you just mess around with it for a while, starting with rules.ini. Once you get the hang of coding the rules.ini file, you can move onto more advanced things.
Look through the totorials if you get stuck or just post in the forums again if none of the tutorials answer your questions (although you might wanna post in the Tiberian Sun Editing Forum the next time, because the Research Center is not where these kinds of questions go). _________________ QUICK_EDIT
You need to sell and rebuild the Advanced deployment centre once you have the barracks, warfactory and airfeild otherwise it wont update for some odd reason :/
Advanced Deployement Centre is just the GDI Radar made to look like the Uplink centre with the nessicery options to enable it to have plugins plugged in.
So I really cant understand why is acting up the way it is.
