Was wondering if it's possible to change the available player colour options for skirmish mode? (Gold, Red, Blue, Green, Purple, Orange, Sky Blue, Pink)

I already know of one method that works but is rather sloppy, if you search for '[colors]' in rules.ini and for example replace the RGB (color coordinates, - XXX, XXX, XXX) of Gold with the RGB for Lightblue, you will be Lightblue after picking Gold in the skirmish menu.

However this is not without side effects as this seems to affect anything in the game that uses gold as a tag. For example if you change the RGB for green, you'll notice the version description in the bottom right of the title screen now has a different colour. Some colours (Red and Green for me) also seem to not change your player colour.

After playing TI, I was amazed to see Brown as a colour choice. (Ironically, brown is the colour I've always wanted, my favourite)

It is possible for me to add brown as a colour in the skirmish menu without extensive hacking? (Brown as in "Brown" as a player choice in text, the text doesn't have to be brown in color)

Also, this may sound even noobier than the above but what is the RGB for a light, woody brown colour? I've tried various ones from MS Paint an the Internet and I keep getting bluey-greys to blacks?

I'm also aware that it's possible to create a completely new colour ENTRY in Rules.ini, as I tried this and it worked. (Just to say you don't have to sacrifice/swap any other colours to add new ones)

I'm capable of using a HEX editor if the instructions are given, thanks to you guys my Cruentus finally spreads. (Damn fun with maps consisiting of narrow canyons that constantly become blockaded)

Thanks.

RGB? Thought they use HSV. I do remember about TS' colour list which aren't restricted to the already existing colour as I can vaguely remember about HyundaiPurple or something like that, but I'm quite sure you can't add more colours to the dropdown list for player's selection. You can only replace them.

Well as you can see in TI, Brown replaces Pink, and you're better off replacing existing colors because only in YR can you have new colors added (at least with NPatch and Ares). I think Brown actually exists in TS (the color that's just "Red" not "DarkRed")

I think it's also the same in YR, but here's YR's coding of brown.
Code:
20,255,184

The method you know for changing the available multiplayer colors is actually the only method available; it's only the names of the colors themselves that require you to hack the exe in order to change the color of their names in dialogs as well (to do this you open the Game.exe file in a HEX editor, goto 305E34h and edit the colors there; they're all in order, 3 bytes long and separated by a 00-byte). To also change the actual names of the colors you'll need to open the Language.dll file with a Resource Hacker and then edit resources 44 and 54 under 'String Table'.

Also, the reason why you've been unable to change the red and green multiplayer colors is most likely because you've been editing the wrong colors; for the multiplayer colors you need to edit DarkRed and DarkGreen (like you mentioned, normal green instead affects certain texts).

And as mentioned in the posts above mine, you need to use HSV rather than RGB (which is why your colors are coming out wrong).
