Working on a project in Illustrator. Will probably be my most complex yet. I've got around 10 hours into her already. I will, of course, continue posting updates. Smile

Here she is, so far!

I assume this is a side image of the prow?

And that we see some small cannons on the side, perhaps some broadside missile pods, some launching bays and a couple of bigass cannons on the prow?

You know with a length of 6.8 km, and a weapon configuration that's both broadsided, as well as prow-based, I'm suddenly reminded of Imperial warships from 40k... was it an inspiration?

@Ixinoclast: No sir, I'm not into warhammer.

I have an update for you!

I've finished the Silhouette of the Majestic, and reworked her main turrets. I've also added her main hangar bays and engines. Anything aft of Shuttle Bay 4 (with the exception of the turrets) still needs to be detailed. But, you get the overall picture. I've also changed the class name from Desolator to Sunspire.

She's a big girl; biggest in Her Majesty's fleet, sitting at a stout 6.5km long. She's the first in the line of Sunspire class Dreadnoughts. The next two Sunspire class ships, the Resolute and the Dauntless, are scheduled for completion in 8 and 14 months, respectively.

Her main hangar bays (and secondary engines on the aft of the bays) retract into ship when not in combat. The secondary engines, when in combat, add extra acceleration and maneuverability, at the cost of draining nearly double the amount of energy.

The Majestic is the Flagship of the newly constituted 15th Battlegroup. Her commander (as well as the battlegroup commander) is Fleet Admiral Alexandra Spoor, and her first officers are Commander Stephen Wolfe and Commander Kylene Callies.

She has a crew of roughly 7,000 souls, including 3 bridge staffs of 35 in rotating 9 hour shifts (shifts intermingling for an hour for updates and training purposes)

I hope you enjoy it! You can follow her progress, of course, on my DeviantArt page.

That's a lot of weapons on that ship, like an instant battleship, aircraft carrier, dreadnought and its secondary engines allow it to be used as a cruiser.

Is that your vision of space combat all about ships capable of doing everything a bit (which would be logical in a story where combat spaceships would be expensive and rare), or a specific feature of the Majesty fleet?

@LKO: Hahahahah! I never even thought of that. Helios Empire's ship names are all attributes (Majestic, Dauntless, Resolute, Feareless, ect.)

@Ixonoclast: Dreadnoughts are the very essence of a battlegroup. In my universe, the Treaty of New Versailles limits star nations to 20 Dreadnoughts (most galactic powers couldn't afford much more than that anyway. The four major powers each have twenty, with the lesser nations only having about 5 to 8 each). The treaty also puts a limit on battleships and carriers, although all but one nation stays well below the limit, choosing to devote resources to dreadnoughts and screen ships (frigates, destroyers & cruisers).

Interestingly enough, the 15th BG has less battleships than a standard BG, but has a substantial amount more battlecruiser (BC) class ships. The BC class ships sacrifice armor and weapons for increased maneuverability and speed.

The Majestic replaces the former DN-015 ArchAngel, which was destroyed at the battle of Marre Novus.
