Sometimes people post sounds ripped from other games to be used in modding, such as the EAW sound pack. I wanted to know what is the rationale in using ripped sounds in a mod available to the public. is It always a matter of "let's try and pray we don't receive a cease and desist letter from the copyright holders"?

or you could simply credit those who made it and write from where it came from

Blizzard Sounds are definitely hotspots for getting C&D Letters...

EA is fine as long as you mix voices from their own games afaik.

(I.E: Using BFME Voices alongside a RA2 Mod)

Credit is always a given, however i don't think every developer would be ok with people using their sounds in a Mod, AFAIK, so i'm asking if the community has a rationale in that.

(I know about Blizzard)

The general thing seems to be that taking C&C voices and putting them in a C&C mod is legit and above board. Things get fuzzier the further from being a C&C game things get.
