Nolt's random content thread.
Well I've done a lot of voxeling last week, pretty much 2 creations, I will talk about the one I'm having problems with, I've given it a lot of hours of work and still believe it isn't worth using at all.
I want you guys to see if the design is decent, if not I'll just have to start over
It's meant to be a subterranean chem tank, i really loved these when I was a kid and plus the viceroid code, damm it was fun.
Note: the green thingies next to the drill were meant to be the gas comes from well, I don't know their exact name in english.
I would increase the size of the drill, apart from that looking good me likes. _________________ Free Tibed!

It's a decent start for a first voxel, but there are quite a lot of things that can be better.
-avoid plain colors.
-- use different shades to accentuate small details in the shape (e.g. make borders a tad darker)
-- don't use pure black/white. use dark/bright grey instead (e.g. the tracks in dark grey)
-avoid one voxel big details/lines. make them 2 or 3 voxel wide and color the outer parts of the line in a color between the main line and the adjacent area to simulate some kind of antialiasing. (reduces pixelated look ingame)
-hand paint normals to give even flat surfaces some tiny details (e.g. dents which are done here with normals, like bump maps are used in 3d-modeling)
-try to make the design/shape in a quite realistic way. As OrangeNero said, the drill is too small to allow it to create a tunnel big enough for the unit. The tracks are too exposed and would get stuck in subterranean movement (bottom of the track would move the unit forwards while the top of the track would move the unit backwards)
In case of this unit, i would make it a tad longer, the tracks inside the main body and the drill slightly bigger. _________________ SHP Artist of Twisted Insurrection: Nod buildings
Yes, I though about increasing the drill size, but if I do that, I'll lose the space for the guns... I was wishing to avoid making something like the devil's tongue, but it seems I'll have to go that way.
Maybe I'll have to put the gas throwing thing in a small turret in the top along the cockpit? I can fix the drill just fine and, about the colors, meh, that's the hardest part, I'll try to give it more details since I'll definetly make it larger, just like a devil's tongue -_- .

Well after seeing dutchy's new signature I wanted to compete with his creation, but since I got no skills in photshop, I started to do things random, and went the ridiculous way, that way I can make a clever sig with no skills... Still, photoshop has a option to add borders right?
Also, I made a ontos for NOD, I want to see your opinion about it.
Crimsonum: Yes, it's the result of trolling with the effects of the program and a little creativity...
I had no net connection so I couldn't search for any tutorials, that's the best I could do with no knowledge.
Dutchy, I though the program could add borders to the images, but it seems not, Is photoshop enough to make a decent sig with decent effects? Like borders or the background effect of your own sig. QUICK_EDIT

I only use Photoshop. As for those kind of borders: in the Layer inspector, double-click the layer. This will open a new menu with all kind of effect you can add to this layer. The one you are looking for is at the bottom: Stroke. Try out some values. I mostly use a thickness of 1 pixel, as more is a bit overkill for small images like signatures. QUICK_EDIT

I made it today while I went to visit some relatives, no net again, I made this thing without giving it too much though, just place the first thing that I've found on my notebook, yes I've knew gangnam style before it was too mainstream. Gotta figure out how to make a metal effect now...

Well it does look nice. Only problem I see is that burst is done alternating. So you'll probably need to make a custom muzzle flash & projectile for it.
