Are two pixels seriously this important to you?

If so, it's been stated that the release iron curtain also has a floating ball.  Not sure why you continue to debate that in this thread.  Why not go start a new thread entitled "Technology discrepancies in the fictional world of Red Alert 2/Yuri's Revenge" and then run off and write your masters' thesis on it.

I have an idea.
The fate of all Beta mods has been that none of them were never finished, maybe we all the community should work on it all together instead.
I'm pretty sure everyone has worked on some beta assets at least once, and might still have some rare screenshots, videos or renderings or might know some facts about how something was in the beta.
I know its a super crazy idea but it might just work if we all work together.

If we search around there are already a lot of beta assets like
Tesla Tank, Paradrop Plane @ http://www.sleipnirstuff.com/forum/downloads.php?f=46
and of course there are a lot of assets here on PPM,
i have a copy of the long lost hydrofoil(sea scorpion) and german tank destroyer, the red heavy tank and IFV
I can provide a quite a few screenshots, make base assets and provide a few rare videos i recently found on my HDD yesterday, and of course i can make a lot of the assets like these:

I can't say I care about most of the assets you posted, some are lacking details (tesla reactor icon) or are already in the game (cursors), but ztype.

That battle lab is very sexy. It needs blue lighting on it when ingame to give it a little extra glow. Other than that, unf. Very sexy.

The cursors were different, to see how different you need to see the video they are in, they are a mix of TS style and RA2 shape.

It's made from scratch, a lot more simple and faster than fixing the one in the screenshots.

And none of them have accurate colors or the radar logo and animation, the soviet UI was light brownish not blue and i believe it used a different palette that i found in the mixes.

Currently approaching finals week so I've been spending most of my time studying and working on term papers.

I'm using the underground Soviet battle lab, though I hope to macgyver the soviet tower one in as an allied one, seeing as no pre-release graphics exist for the Allied battle lab.

Anyways, time to disappear for another week or so. :p

is PreRA2 going to be an exact remake though? I'd probably think the Non-Full Team Color would also benefit from the Soviets.

I can also send you edits of my Half Track,Corkscrew & WIP Hydrofoil.

IIRC the Half Track also had Missile Pods on it in the Intro.

I remember that website.  "Icelan.zip" was a collection of pictures from red2.org - they are all available in my Red Alert 2 Beta Archives on the front page of PPM under the Red Alert 2 category.

I noticed something finally thanks to this...

The Rhino Tank Voxel in Vanilla is the one in the PreRelease Cameo!  Surprised

So EA goofed up the Rhino Tank when they made the transition from Lots of Team Color...

An early donation I guess for PreRA2 as well I guess... I tried to touch up and make the PreRelease Cameo blend well with the Release Set.

That gap generator one was a custom one made by myself and VisceroidGod.

The cameos for PreRA2 will not have the rounded glassy effect on them.  I had made an effort at one point to remove it from all of them, got about halfway through them, not sure where those went...

I know that, i had a lot of textless/glossless ones but my collection is a mess still have to sort out 2GB, i just posted those for reference of most of the known ones
About the Gap, i thought it i had seen it before but added it just in case i was wrong.
Anyone knows if its posible to re-enable the font based cameo text that can be turned off in the setttings? (like TS has)

Nope it isn't either in rockpatch npatch or ares.
MadHQ remade the battlelab and its cameo and the Soviet sentry a long time ago.

Brian did you ever look at the commented out parts of the ini's,from what i understand everyone always deletes them to make the ini's smaller ,they contain some beta code as well.

and make the flag anim,
and fix the shadows,
and get rid of the bushes,
and fix the rendering bugs
and make a damaged version.

I played around with some advanced resampling algorithms,
if anyone can give me an tool that can downscale this by 62,3 percent without mutch quality loss it can be used as reference, then i can do the same for the destruction anim as well

These algorithms work extremely well on TS buildings (they look almost like actually re-rendered from WW's assets) and RA2 shadows, but fail to reconstruct proper edge and bright pixels for RA2 detailed buildings  Sad

It does not really align with a scaled down final one, what ever it is it probably looked horrible, i made a underground and final hybrid, it was so horrible that i wanted to poke my eyes out.
As for the radar dish i think i will try to restore the small dish 360 anim now
Edit found a screen of that battlelab, it completely aligns with the one in the fmv

All the 360 radar anim frames i have compiled so far

Update on that, it seems the dishes are slightly different the one on the right seems more tilted, the reason why i need the 360 anim is that i want to check if any of them match the release anim, i will still try an idea i have to remake it.

Finally figured out how to properly texture the Tesla cameo i made, i facepalmed my self when i discovered such an obvious and simple way Laughing
Made the Soviet barracks with the same method, background custom made since its not possible to recover a usable image from a burry video, looks better than the original BG, it even has a frozen lake  Very Happy
Added radar cameo,besides the BG remade as is in original no idea what's that shadow further near the back, probably a tree, go ask WW
Remade the final nuke silo cameo that was in the beta  Laughing

The cameos above are the ones used in the beta only,i'm posting this separately since this isn't exactly a beta asset, i made the shadow from scratch since the original does not have one hope it does not look like crap.

If I remember correctly, a lot of the (at least infantry) cameo renders were on the old RA2 website in the units section

Just small renders from the cameos and not the cameos themselves

They may also be in the manual? Albeit black and white.


I tried using wayback machine (www.archive.org) to find them but only got as far as the main RA2 page (around 2002). The menu was done entirely in flash with no HTML option even available and flash does not show in way back machine so couldnt get to the unit/inf pages.

TFD manual has them too, IIRC also of Yuri's forces.

These are only b/w as well.

Also, tomsons26lv, extremely nice job you're doing here. It seems you're already putting in more effort in prerelease RA2 than Symphonic.

As far the authenticness goes of the images online, I suppose only the things that really move are real.

Useless,those are just higher res versions of the ingame infantry, besides we have quite a few of the HQ versions of the unit cameos its just a matter of once we fix them up,
even if RA2 website ever had any cameos it seems ea has requested the web archive to redirect any links to http://www.ea.com/cnc, they can't even be accessed anymore(worked 2 months ago) Mad , i had checked out the site some time ago and iirc it mostly had just WW's team photos and of the people that were atending the public tests

Heres some of the Cameos I've been restoring/fixing that you mentioned just now (I Couldn't be bothered to post most of them as you mentioned they aren't PreRelease Per say... But these are some of which i removed the glass effect)



Light Tank is supposedly an M60 Patton... (Might need to touch up the sky since it gets horribly converted when on the Cameo Palette)

A lot of them look really good,only but the Allied barracks, the spy, the rhino are beta stuff.

The easiest way to fix the text overlay brightness is make a new white layer the same shape as the text overlay set it to color dodge, vivid light or overlay and tweak the opacity, but that might only work correctly on WW's cameos, basically my idea is invert the colors that modified the cameo in the first place and combine them properly, fix a few things and you will get a glossless cameo.

I had that video 1 year ago, that video is from the Collectors Edition DVD and is downscaled by 35?(maybe more) percent and the quality is messed up with video editing,as for the nuke White House map i have actually played it after restoring the e31 map the fence are there iirc
