New Weapon type: ATGM
Today I'd like to bring a new weapon system to C&C. One that I haven't seen in any C&C nor mod till now at least not accurately coded. Its about ATGM anti-tank guided missile such as the Dragon US the Milan Fr or the Hot Ger.
I am basing most of the following on the gameplay of Wargame. I ain't a military expert so yea maybe its correct maybe it ain't. ATGM have some aspects that make them quite unique. As such they:
- Can be fired out of MBT barrels made for this task such as the Sheridan's Shillelagh atgm.
- While aiming and firing until the atgm impacts the unit firing must stand still.
- Long range and deadly, longer than tank guns.
The tricky part to make this weapon type work in C&C is the standing still while firing. To get this the supposedly best I came up with was using the Tick Tank with the unit as the turret. The building is an invisible dummy using the unit voxel as a turret, this works out rather good apart from one optical exception. The unit will face downwards or upwards while firing at near or far targets. Its important that the turret has a very low ROT to make it look believable as long as the unit uses tracks, a wheeled unit turning on the spot looks a bit silly. The health does not regenerate when deploying undeploying, it is connected as it is with the tick tank or artillery.
Thought I'd share that sort of weapon/unit design and yea well maybe hear some thoughts about it, especially about the invisible building and ways to limit the turret movement.
Btw I hate atgm in Wargame, just too damn powerful. _________________ Free Tibed!
EA for worst company of the decade! QUICK_EDIT
Problem: this is still a fire and forget missile. Unlike in reality, the missile isn't going out of control when the firing unit is killed (or in C&C also undeployed again).
Deploying the unit and then giving it another weapon for deployed state is a quite old technique many mods use. So nothing really new.
However, many players would surely find it strange when a missile is fired out of a gun barrel as many are unfamiliar with such weapon systems.
If the unit has a turret, then it should keep the turret when deployed. I don't see any reason why the whole unit has to be the turret in deployed mode.

Not if you really use the turret and not the barrel. Only the barrel tilts when aiming at targets. Turrets stay horizontal. _________________ SHP Artist of Twisted Insurrection: Nod buildings
