Hello, I've recently tried making a building and I'd like some feedback on the project I made so far.

The building is supposed to be a weapons lab of some sort, I'm aiming so that this building can be used in RA2/YR and blend in with the other buildings best as possible.

I made the building in Google Sketchup, and rendered it with Maxwell (free version).

What do you guys think of it? Also if you can I wanna hear your specific thoughts on the lighting, textures, and anything else to improve it. Thanks in advance!

Stronger contrast on the lighting would probably help.

Yes, the lighting needs to be better. read this topic for some lighting tips

The brick texture is too big imo. Some of these stones are almost 2 meter wide.
The remap is too bright. It seems to miss any shading. It's also too plain colored. I prefer remap having a texture too.

TS and RA2 have a scale now? #Tongue Or is it a scale used in sKetchup/Maxwell?

The size of the bricks is fine if you are trying to fit into RA2 Soviet style. The bricks themselves are just fine-ish though, because they still don't look as good as the original. RA2 texture gives those bricks a depth, your texture is quite flat.

@Orac, LKO Yeah, the lighting and shadows are bad/nonexistent due to limitations of my renderer right now, its only a free version. I think I'll have to switch to something else to render it. I tried using POV ray already too but I really hated its interface :O The brick size seems okay like Speeder said imo, thought it could be a little smaller. As for remap, they're also plain colored in vanilla RA2/TS though for other buildings it could be changed. Thanks for the tips too Smile

@Speeder The texture needs work I agree, I'm gonna improve it on the next post Smile

ConMan, that is awesome building, I like it!
Giving to it antennas (similiar to spy sat or robot control) can make it donation/transaction center for Soviets or something like that!

Not a global scale, but each object has in itself a scaling.
And it looks bad when a window is the same size as a (supposed to be tiny) brick in the wall. Or a door is as high as a smoke stack.

And at least TS does indeed have a scale for almost all civil buildings. 8 pixel are 2.5 meters in TS. Thus each floor is 8 pixel high.

There's no internal scale in RA2.  Check out the boxes and oil drums around structures.

LKO obviously you've never seen any of the Soviet structures. They have big stones, they're not supposed to be little red bricks used in council estates. IMO the size is fine, they just as Speeder said need some extra depth.
