Solid Color Artwork (High-Res)
Subject description: Uggabuggaboo... Looking for feedback from the PPM firm.
Hello Ladies & Gentlemen.
Those of you that know me already are aware of what I am capable of in Photoshop, however, I have recently been trying to expand upon my knowledge, I am happy with my abilities to put together complex images, wallpapers, texturing, logos, etc. However, my knowledge on solid color artwork and extremely high-res designs is a a bit thin. I have entered a T-Shirt designing competition on VampireFreaks.com. The rules don't allow for gradients or detailed texturing, which is what I am used to, so I have had to take a different approach to my art style. I was hoping to get some feedback on some high-res pieces I put together for the competition.
Everything you see is what I put together from scratch in Photoshop. Any feedback you have that could help me expand upon my abilities would be greatly appreciated (I ask here because most of you have an eye for quality, and DeviantArt is crap).
Note: You are limited to use 6 solid colours in this competition.
I made about several variations of the first design 'cause I was never happy with it. First there were two designs: A Male design and a Female design, one titled King of Freaks, the other, Queen of Freaks. The male one was red and black.
Mmm, yes, both colour schemes are fitting. Go win that competition and print me one _________________ Last edited by Crimsonum on Mon Sep 30, 2013 1:43 pm; edited 1 time in total QUICK_EDIT
Truth be told PS is actually a post process app, people use Illustrator for designing stuff, especially logos.
Ai makes it really easy to make symetrical shapes and keeps it clean and sharp.
If its vector shape you can export it to Ai with file > export > paths to illustrator. _________________ Tiberian Dawn, Red Alert, Tiberian Sun ,Red Alert 2,Renegade, Command & Conquer 3,Tiberium and Tiberium Wars and Westwood related image & video archive

Don't forget to state who are you otherwise i'll ignore the invite QUICK_EDIT
The castle needs a classic long winding, thin path/staircase up along the hill. Maybe even with a few tombstones next to the path.
The other designs are really cool. Though maybe add some more vampire stereotypes and symbols.
e.g.
-a garlic bulb with a stop sign above
-a blood red drop
-maybe some cryptic text written in a strange font
On the first one i think that the bat and other smaller objects are used a bit too often. It gives it a tad repetitive look and almost like "a desperate try to add more details"
The third star thingy would be nicer if it had some kind of simple 3D effect. This should make the metal pieces look a lot more metallic. Maybe a few reflection stripes on them would be nice too (just a white color or brighter grey streak). _________________ SHP Artist of Twisted Insurrection: Nod buildings
Perhaps I should've mentioned that I don't have Illustrator. I know I really should get hold of it though (and maybe a newer version of Photoshop instead of being stubborn and sticking with CS3).
Thanks for the feedback, LKO. I'll probably have more of a play with the third image based upon your suggestions. The castle its my least favorite of the three, but is the favorite of the competition, oddly enough, so I'm not sure if I want to change it that much. QUICK_EDIT
The castle screams "I'm copying every used-t-shirt design" IMO (which IS the popular trend of course), but I have to agree with LKO that the bats and toothy smile design are a desperate attempt at detail.
Also the white looks like an ant to me, more than a vampire. And yes, deviantArt is notoriously bad for 'good' feedback.
Oh and gears don't fit any kind of vampire scheme, sorry. _________________ "Don't beg for things; Do it yourself or you'll never get anything." QUICK_EDIT
The goal isn't to create Vampyric designs, despite the name of the site being "VampireFreaks", but more Cyber/Gothic designs, in which gears and cogs are common, hence their usage. QUICK_EDIT
oh in this case i think some fine neon color stripes and arcs would be nice and mixed into a more darker look.
Maybe also try to add some reflections to resemble the polished leather and varnish style of cybergoth clothes.
I think a half humorous half dark serious comical simplified illustration of a cybergoth girl could look good. Especially when this will be used as a picture for a t-shirt.
Since the predators of the movies also had a quite similar style, maybe you can create a 6 color image of a cool cybergoth predator. A cybergoth predator would surely rock.
