Business is business. The story behind the end of C&C F2P.
Subject description: "The GDI bureaucrat cunts will pay!" -- Kane says. The GLA blames the EU leaders.
Hello everyone. Some non-identified ex-staff of the extinct Victory Games has decided to place an 'unoficial' story at the official forums that explains exactly what happened yesterday there:
Quote:
Hi everyone, I just wanted to say that it has been a pleasure working on this game and I hope you all have enjoyed the closed alpha!
This isn't official or anything, but you probably saw that our whole team got the ax. I hope you understand that we at VG all were dedicated to making a game for all of you to play, and that the press release line was total b.s. It was NOT any feedback from the alpha that shut this project down but just petty corporate politics and shenanigans.
We were all shocked and confused to find out that our studio is closed (and that we are all out of jobs!), but I am happy to see that the game is still up and running RIGHT NOW and that a lot of people are still having fun with it. Please enjoy the live game until they figure out how to turn off the servers (it might be a while)!
So... that's it. In the name of PPM, and, I'm sure that many C&C fans may agree with me, we wish the best luck for the people who worked in this game with future jobs and a long life of course. QUICK_EDIT
wow, what a bullshit company, they had it right there, and they threw it right in to the garbage bin. _________________ Hydraw Art on Facebook QUICK_EDIT
It was posted in the same day the studio was disbanded.
I think it's the same thing that wiped EALA C&C team some years ago. They fire a bunch of people, stocks increase and their executives get their bonus. QUICK_EDIT
The entire studio was laid off, we had people still fixing bugs until minutes prior to the meeting that ended this game. The whole team was very passionate and dedicated to making a great title, it's sad to see it go out like this so close to the end.
The employees must be really mad now. I can imagine how they feel about this. Just try to imagine working over a year on a mod, creating new stuff, watching it work, just waiting to release it and be proud of it.
Then someone comes and takes it all away, all the hours of work and burn it down to nothing.
Thats how it must feel like for those employees who spend probably more than 6 hours each day, trying to make a real C&C again, when suddenly EA decides to fire them all and shut down the game.
Must be terrible for them... QUICK_EDIT

While it does suck to see all your work go down in flames they still got payed for it. _________________ Free Tibed!

wow, deja vous much? is this going to happen with EVERY C&C studio?
Just beware of what happens if EA decides to pass on the rights... X3
the rights dropped in worth yet again, they're not worth shit cause they know with every action like this, the community gets more and more toxic and frustrated and lesser in numbers.
I honestly don't think anyone really wants to touch the IP.

Tim's Final Post
I write this not as EA_Tim, but as private citizen Tim Morten, and this will be my final post in these forums.
I want to express my sincere thanks to the many community members who participated in the alpha. Just as the project was a labor of love for the team, I know those of you who poured hours into giving us feedback share the team's disappointment about the cancellation.
As a project and as a team we were committed to striving for excellence, and though there will always be detractors, I sincerely believe that we were on the way to creating something great. I'm sad that we didn't get to complete the journey with you - whether you were our staunchest supporter or our harshest critic, you have my personal thanks for participating, and I wish you all the best.

Very true, I'll be surprised if anyone picks it up or EA shuttles C&C to yet another studio rather than sitting on it.
It is a sad day for all of us, regardless. QUICK_EDIT
That's what I probably thought - the alpha process was much too long for the EA and C&C F2P was a too risky investment for them. They got rid of SAGE what was great, but Tim mentioned much earlier that engineering Frostbite for RTS game and some features like crushing etc. might take some time. Don't forget about persons who got alpha but their lack of proper feedback (omg, the game is too fast im getting destroyed because I played one game) - that alpha was a much more demanding and fun game than any EA C&C title since Zero Hour. QUICK_EDIT
Like it or not, Generals 2 was a very ambitious project. Now we can't play as revitalised GLA no more ;_; Best of luck to those guys...
Guess like Jem said, Rise of the Reds can be considered the spiritual successor until the real Generals 2 starts development again. Excluding USA and making the GLA multi-ethic were very neat ideas, I don't regret saying that _________________ The future belongs to The Forgotten! QUICK_EDIT

Ya now.. now that I think of it the biggest way EA could please the fans is to just release a fully and easily moddable RTS engine, and just let the fans make their own damn game _________________ The Fall of Hammerfest - Epic Tiberian chain story

Team Black hit the nail on the head. Make a solid game with a huge modding potential and easy to understand workflow and the game would be more than capable of being profitable. Instead, they insist on reinventing the wheel and copying other studios without understanding the keys to their success. _________________ You come for the modding but you stay for the Crap Forum. keys to their success lie in 1995 since then, nothing world shockingly happened. thats the point, with the newer Gen 2 thingy, things looked like they could finalyl have a"piece" of the e-sports side cake. _________________ Hydraw Art on Facebook QUICK_EDIT
I really hate things ended for Gen 2 like this. I was excited for the game to be making a return, and now due to internal politics we miss out on a game and plenty of people who were passionate about their job get fired.
yup, didn't see it coming though i thought EA couldn't lay off more people there a 2 whole studios go, it's beyond egoistic and i dont want to raise the "EA hateflag" but really, they've got a buttload of people suddenly jobless i think, and thats not really something one can justify, especially with the current job marked. it's plain irresponsible. _________________ Hydraw Art on Facebook QUICK_EDIT

Its not just C&C there's a huge amount of game series that went down hill recently. But it is difficult to judge who is responsible simply because all the bits you'd have to know to make fair judgment are secret. However the management definitely has its piece of cake of responsibility.
Just think of the shooter tiberium. It got canceled around the time when EA got relation up with the guys from Call of duty and now we see Titanfall a game with Titans running around. From a customer viewpoint it is very irresponsible indeed but I highly doubt that it is from the sight of the managers but its evil nonetheless. _________________ Free Tibed!
