In the first update, the location of the new lore is described: Terra. Terra is an alternative earth with different continents, countries, factions and history. It will be used to have a clean slate for the lore to start on, without any possible problems of having to explain how the timeline of Earth has been changed to fit the lore of the mod.
History Part I
In the second update, details about the history of Terra during the 60's are given. During that time Terra was ruled by 3 factions: People's Alliance, Terra Defence Force and Luna Wolves. While they won't be part of the mod in any direct way, they are part of the history and the cause of how the current state of Terra is at the time the mod's timeline starts. QUICK_EDIT
Well I suppose it's interesting that it's not taking place on Earth, though it looks somehow more like a fantasy setting than sci-fi, which is what I thought it was. Also why do fictional planets never look as appealing as Earth? The continents are always far less abstract than the strange and iconic formations we have in real life. QUICK_EDIT

Fantasy setting? Do explain.

Most likely because we are used to the looks of our continents, and everything else looks strange. QUICK_EDIT
Well mostly the shape of continents looks like something from WoW or another MMO. And probably the font used is like something from an old map. The names are also sound like generic fantasy words to me.

No but they don't look strange. They look very UNstrange, that's my point. Nothing looks as strange as Earth. Like here it's just 4 big continents basically, yet in real life the landmass raps around itself in all sorts of strange ways. QUICK_EDIT

Maybe. I took inspiration from various sources, and sometimes just tried something that felt good. To be honest, it's my first try at creating an entire world, and I felt pretty proud of it QUICK_EDIT
It does look rather cool, but I can see Omega's point. My complaint about the map would be a small nitpick that the equatorial regions don't show the natural propensity for deserts and jungles which we see on earth. But hey; in any case, good stuff. I miss the name "Revenant" though Last edited by Orac on Mon Nov 11, 2013 11:39 am; edited 1 time in total QUICK_EDIT

Actually, the light brown areas that I assume are deserts are actually located right or close at the latitudes where they appear on Earth. Also, don't forget how local climate determined by the shape of continents and ocean currents can defy this global rule. _________________

@Orac: Well, I took our earth as a basis for this one, so that may explain why there are similarities. Also, who says the Revenant are gone? As said, this is just history
@Aro: Thanks
@Crimmy: the yellow-brown parts are indeed deserts. The brown part in the middle of the Jaezell continent is supposed to be a low mountain range. QUICK_EDIT
