Subject description: Mirror, flip. Mirror, flip. From YR to TD. Come on! Sing with me!

Almost six years after the last official release, we are proud to announce that Open Source SHP Builder 3.37 is now available for download. There wasn't much work on it during this huge interval of 6 years. We've been hearing bug reports from the community and fixing them. Also, a couple of random features were added, such as Mirror, Flip, a new Resize method and an auto-installer/update/uninstaller to make the distribution of the beta versions easier.

The official release of OS SHP Builder 3.37 started to see the light of the day once Zaaz has fixed the way the program saved SHP (TD) files. That problem was haunting OS SHP Builder since 3.35 and, with that fix, OS SHP Builder has became a reliable tool to edit graphics from Tiberian Dawn, Red Alert 1, Tiberian Sun, Red Alert 2 and also OpenRA. He has contributed with that and a couple of other fixes as well.

It's important to mention that the installer has changed in this version and it may require internet connection in the first run (although there are means to avoid it). The installer was not tested with Windows 8, but it fails, don't worry: it can be installed without installer. Information on how to do that is available at the OS SHP Builder section. Here's the changelog:

- 3.37
 - revisions by Banshee, contributions from Zaaz
   - Added: Mirror and Flip: You can mirror and flip frames at Tools -> Image Rotation.
   - Added: You may now enable or disable the preview of brush operations at View -> Preview Brush. It is enabled by default.
   - Added: You may now enable or disable the ability of the program of auto-detecting SHP type, game and palette at Options -> AutoSelect SHP Type. It is enabled by default.
   - Added: MS Paint resize mode at Edit -> Resize. It resizes the image using windows API, like what MS Paint does.
   - Added: A new option at Preferences that lets you save shadow frames using compression 1 to prevent issues with big sized units and animations.
   - Added: Installer is now inside the program. This means that any beta version of OS SHP Builder will come with an installer that will always download you the latest version of the program. You must be connected to the internet to use it.
   - Added: Auto Update at the Help menu. It will always download you the latest version of the program straight from the SVN. You must be connected to the internet to use it.
   - Added: Uninstaller is also inside the program and in a separate link.
   - Updated: Community links were updated.
   - Updated: The default settings now forces different palettes for each situation instead of unittem.pal for everyone.
   - Updated: The program will use your theme now.
   - Bug Fix: Fixes issues when saving SHP (TD) files. They are now 100% reliable and read by XCC Mixer and other programs. (Thanks Zaaz)
   - Bug Fix: Fixes issues when saving the radar color from SHP (TS) files. FinalSun will now display SHP (TS) overlays saved with OS SHP Builder. (Thanks ApolloTD and Zaaz)
   - Bug Fix: Images with dimensions bigger than 500 pixel may now be resized.
   - Bug Fix: Zoom will no longer go out of bounds. It will always be between 1 and 32.
   - Bug Fix: Palette Conversion no longer mess up with colours at the remappable range if it is not an unit.

I recommend everyone to update your OS SHP Builder for this version. You can download it HERE. Support for this tool is available at HERE.

OS SHP Builder has a SVN Browser HERE. You can also download the latest contents of the SVN, by using a an SVN client, such as Tortoise SVN, right clicking a directory, clicking in Checkout and setting URL to svn://svn.ppmsite.com/shp_builder

If you have a site, feel free to mirror it without asking for permision. You can also play with its source code and add your own features on the program. Just credit myself and Stucuk for the program. Enjoy it!

Is it me or does 3.37 now requires you to always run under Admin... Before I could run it without having to see UAC.

It is not you. It happens due to the included installer.

3.38 Beta is currently 3.37 with a couple of bug fixes.

In order to grab it, you have two options:

downloadosshpb338b.png
 Description:
Go to www.ppmsite.com and download OS SHP Builder 3.38 Beta straight from it. If you have 3.37 installed, all you need to do is to replace the SHP_Builder.exe

Open the program and click Help -> Update OS SHP Builder... (requires 3.37 or higher)

Yes, you can. You may also use it to make structures, animations and much more. You can edit every SHP file with it (from TS, RA2 and the other games mentioned above) with it.

Adter a couple of days of working fine, it has begun malfunctioning.

Upon launch, it gives me this:
"Error Palette: < *SHP Builder directory*\palettes\ts\unittem.pal > Not Found"

When clicking on OK, it gives me:
"I/O error 1784"

After clicking OK, it gives me:
"Access Violation at address: 00533B8A in module 'SHP_Builder.exe'. Read of address 00000414"
a few times.

After that, I'm in the program, but multitasking gives me the same Access Violation window.

It doesn't load palettes from its directory at all.

Upon trying to exit, it gives me this again:
"I/O error 1784"

I can only exit it through the Task Manager.

EDIT:It seems it was installed in a folder "above" the directory I (thought) I told it to. The registry was good, but the files themselves weren't where they were supposed to be. Moving the files to the proper place fixed the issue. Never mind.

Did you install the 3.37 final one or the old 3.37 beta that is available at CNCNZ.com? The one from CNCNZ.com didn't have a finished installer and had many bugs with that, which were fixed in the final release.

The final 3.37 build found here (which for some reason has the title "Open Source SHP Builder 3.38 Beta 4" in the program bar).

I still wonder how it managed to work in at least two runs while it was misplaced...

The reason for displaying "Open Source SHP Builder 3.38 Beta 4" is that the installer downloads the latest beta version of the program, which is 3.38 Beta 4 at the moment. So, you have the very latest version.

Regarding how did it work without palettes for two runs. I'm also very surprised. It wasn't supposed to do that at all. It either would try to install the program again (because it wouldn't find the palette) or crash with access violations like you saw, although I've been trying to reduce these crashes. I do not understand how did it install the program in a directory above you've said, as I cannot see anything in the code of the program that could cause that to happen (and it would run correctly in the first two runs). Didn't you accidentally move the OS SHP Builder files to the wrong dir? You know? Sometimes we drag drop directories by accident in Windows Explorer...

I basically keep most C&C tools in one folder, but I hadn't accessed it for some time before the crashes started.

I did uninstall SHP Builder 3.36 prior to installing the latest one, but I didn't know that the main .exe and its .dat file were left untouched by the uninstaller. I had to remove them manually to move 3.38b4 in that folder (to which my registry files link to). Maybe the 3.37 installer decided not to overwrite the leftover 3.36 and went up one level instead, ignoring registry data before the first restart (as is sometimes the case with other stuff)?

The 3.37 installer completely ignores 3.36. And the 3.36 uninstaller... I'll be honest here: it's something I have never tested in my life. It was done with another software that I just supposed it worked fine, differently from the 3.37 uninstaller, which was totally coded by me.

I noticed recently with the Clipboard for pasting/moving around the canvas you don't see the selection bars now. Its kind of hard when adjusting graphics now as I have to open it in say PS instead of just being able to do it on the SHP itself.

I confirm this error. Most probably when Banshee revisited the file OS_SHP_Tools.pas in rev 61.

I've checked OS_SHP_tools.pas. The only related code to it is the rectangle_dotted function and everything that it uses there. As far as I've verified and re-verified, it seems to be working correctly. There is nothing suspicious in that code at all. The problem might be somewhere else.

True, sorry. I didnt remember you changed FormSHPImage too. In RefreshImage1, you call Rectangle_Dotted if the SelectData.HasSource = true, but in case of a paste from the clipboard, this override s the previous call to Rectangle_Dotted (which is called in FormMain).

EDIT: so what could be done is moving the call to Rectangle_Dotted from RefreshImage1(..) to  Image1MouseMove(..) . I think?
EDIT: there's already a call to rect_dotted in MouseMove, so i just removed the one in RefreshImage1.

Try using the autoupdate now and see if it is still happening with 3.38 Beta 5.

There's no dotted rect around the selection when moving it with r64. Can you confirm?

Confirmed. When moving the mouse, the selection doesn't show up, nor the dotted rect. When you stop moving, it shows both.

Banshee, I suggest in the later versions of this program and Voxel Section Editor IV (Maybe in the future) should have a function restore session-like feature in-case sudden crash occurs.

I suggested those because for us, it's very annoying to start over from the scratch that produced by a sudden crash. Also, for the future versions of VXLSEs, I would also suggest to add the 3ds2vxl kind of smoothening voxels (this is for those who prefer working through the program itself, rather than doing the object on the 3ds).

It was told to me if I want to take a 1000 by 1000 and want to shrink down to say 10 by 10 it will still keep its quality you have to make the image a vector image.

It depends on the colour conversion method (CCM) that you are using inside OS SHP Builder and your hardware specifications. Honestly, as long as your computer is not as bad as a 486, it should be pretty much quick in 99.9% of the situations.
