Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. For starters, I would like to apologize for not posting PPM or community news as often as I used to a couple of years ago, I have become a very busy man since the golden days on PPM so keeping on top of the community and everything that happens around here other than for my own mods is a difficult task to keep on top of, I give kudos to Banshee for being able to do it so well!

As games get replaced with newer titles, the number of players still enjoying the older games dwindles to a level - typically fewer than 1 percent of all peak online players across all EA titles - where it's no longer feasible to continue the behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping these games up and running.
GameSpy is one of the two online services officially supported for C&C Renegade (next to WOL/XWIS), it'll be shutting down too but there's a community replacement up. QUICK_EDIT

No. GameSpy has decided on their own will to abandon their online gaming business where these games relied on, in order to work.
By the way, the computer that hosts this site has an online server that emulates GameSpy for games such as Battle for Middle Earth 1 and 2, as you can see here. It could be possible to expand that to cover Generals, C&C3 and RA3 if you guys cooperate by capturing packets that are sent or received by GameSpy on actions such as login, victory, defeat, quick match, victory and defeat on ranked matches, etc by using WireShark and sending this information to Phil, at Revora Forums. Note however, that a Generals server is not at the top of their priority list (they still need to recreate quick match and ladder there). This is really weird as they still sell most of the games on Origin. GameSpy closing is not really a valid reason. They can host their own master servers and patch the games accordingly. QUICK_EDIT

At least shutting down the last C&C games that were succesfull (but for some wierd reason leave C&C4?), will certainly not make them more popular than they are now... QUICK_EDIT
Shutting down C&C4 would make the game (even more) unplayable, as as far as I can tell it requires the player to be online at all times even for singleplayer. QUICK_EDIT
We know some of these games are still fan favorites, including Battlefield 2, Battlefield 1942, Medal of Honor: Allied Assault and Command & Conquer games. We are still investigating community-supported options to preserve online functionality for these titles, such as multiplayer. Significant technical hurdles remain, and at this time we don’t have anything to announce.

I love to hate on EA just as much as the next guy for what they done to WestWood (C&C) and Trauma Studios (Desert Combat mod for Battlefield 1942) but GameSpy is the one pulling the plug.
If you want to EA hate, hate EA for not steping up and saving there games like many other Devs/Pubs have. _________________

At this point, I'd expect some other company to step up and take GameSpy's place.
There's plenty of money to be made in the server business, especially for a big company like EA _________________ The Fall of Hammerfest - Epic Tiberian chain story
