I've always thought that temperate.pal (snow, urban) are used just for  ore and gems overlay types in YR. However, my attempt to modificate temperate.pal palette had caused unpredictable side effect. Vehicles (not infantry or buildings, no mater are they SHP or VXL) have got their colours messed. Here is screenshoot. I am also attaching my palette. Can anyone give a hint how to exactly this palette works?

I ran into this exact same problem a long time ago. I have no ideas on the exact workings of this but I have a theory that it is related to some leftover code from Red Alert, where units/buildings etc. used a palette with an identical name.

Something I managed to find out is that replacing the temperat.pal with some of the stock game palettes (forgotten the exact list, but unit*.pal was one of them for sure) does not cause side effects such as this.

I also managed to get around the problem with my own replacement palette by using unittem.pal as base, editing some of the color gradients to match my wishes and copypasting some colors from temperat.pal. Didn't help me to understand the actual nature of this problem at all, though. Altough the way your units appear mostly solid green and your palette having mostly same purple colors makes me think it's directly connected to the RGB values used on temperat.pal.

Yeah this is somewhat known issue yet very strange one so if insist replacing it, have to hand craft it and effects on voxels is also nasty easily.

Okay, i give up, this is indeed RGB.  I can't understand how and why: index 21 with RGB values=0,168,0 cause this bug, but same #21 but RGB=0,176,0 had not. This is madness. I have carfully tried to add all requred colours to unittem clone and renamed it to temperate and it works so far. well, good, I think.

Meaningful bump: cause of bug was the fact that color slots shared color on temperat.pal. I just replaced mine with a completely rainbow pal where no slots share their colors and no issues I ran into.

Currently all ore looks like rainbow mess of pixels but I'll fix that soon. Very Happy

Gotta needed to try this out for something I plan for a long while now.
