Working on a new Soviet Airbase...
Subject description: I need inspiration/opinions :)
Thought I'd repost here since not everyone will check my mod thread...
Anyway, so far my ideas are:
- add some kind of barbed wire or other fencing around the tower, make it feel more military/guarded
- incorporate the brass cupcake from the other soviet buildings (where though?)
- a metallic roof for the hanger like the war factory, or other?
- some decorations like crates/ammo/loader stuff
- make the landing strip lights blink in waves sorta like a modern airport
- make the concrete areas a little dirty
- lighten up the runway? blend it a little?
Would be easier to give any suggestion if there would be anything done already.
Then you can give ideas and improvement suggestions concerning texture, details, additional stuff.
Right now i'd say, add more animations
-spinning radar
-flashing landing stripe lights
-hangar doors that open/close randomly

your current sketch looks like you need a 4x3 foundation, which is quite big

That runway is too small, I've never seen an airfield have specific spots for helicopters and jets so, unless that's possible I would only have one of the two, because that eats way too much space, also, if your main airforce consists of planes only, then the runway is too small, mine's 1x4 and it still feels too small (from the rendering program perspective though, I haven't tested it ingame yet).
I wouldn't add a metallic roof if it's only for decoration, overheated metal tends to become fragile, so that would make more expensive the repairs of your airbase, that's fluff though.
Your other ideas... they will all work, you just have to take your time implement them one by one. But please, if your airbase doesn't give map vision, don't add a spinning radar, it would make no sense. QUICK_EDIT
Soviets in my mod get a spysat with the NARADR, and radar with NAROBO, which is why my previous airbase only had a tiny radar dish for communication...
A runway with parking spots marked in it is another thing, I didn't thought about it really, my idea was that the entire parking spot must be similar, don't waste space making a runway if you're not going to put planes there, because it will have no other function besides decoration, it's your choice actually, but I don't like decorating buildings with things that are not usefull for the building. (If your planes are VTOL, you don't need both the parking spots and the runway), but if you are going to merge them, well that's not a bad idea. QUICK_EDIT
Actually none of the aircraft in my mod are VTOL...
I figure it doesn't make sense to worry about how any of them take off when some like the carriers would break that rule anyway.
