Lion sounds [wav]

I was trying to make sounds for a lion that someone ported to the game, however i can't seem to get sounds to work out of an ecachemd file (my game completely ignores expand files for some reason). It won't read them, or maybe my sounds are encoded wrong? I tried every variation of ways i could throw them in the ini...
I want to avoid editing the audio.bag if possible, trying to keep my changes modular and not requiring backups.

Edit: no need to credit me just for lion sounds, use at will.

You must use Ares along with 22kHz mono 16bit PCM (353 kbps) sounds if you really not want to edit bag/idx.

Also you don't list extensions in the ini just the filenames.

that's what i figured. i used ADPCM 22050 Hz, 4 Bit, Mono . . . i tried both with and without extensions, and no dice.
(i also noticed, unrelated to sound that my game doesn't always prioritize ecache.mix items before the core game files with the same name, i don't know if this file loading issue is connected or not)

you need ares? i've used mods years ago that had sounds in the mix files.. i don't really know much about ares.
i know there are lots of cool things in it, but it's hard to find simple and to the point explanations of what things do and how to go about doing them. there's a whole lot of having to figure stuff out and it can be a pain and time waster.

Those loose sounds were always EVA voices. Not unit sounds which always ended up in bag/idx. (Unless you seen XCC Mod Launcher mods in which the launcher extracted the bag/idx and added the new sounds during activation, so the end result being the same.)

Both EVA and bag accepts any properties as long as IMA or PCM tho.

Regarding your other question, see http://modenc.renegadeprojects.com/MIX#Loading_Hierarchy (tho this was also changed by Ares with expandmd being shifted above langmd, to abandon loose file scattering once and for all).

Regarding your fear about Ares - as long as you can raise a proper question I don't mind having Ares feats explained. OTOH most of them already has some kind of showcase here'n'there for sure.

WinXP Sound Recorder does't open that files. XCC Mixer also can't play and change them correctly. How can i change them to PCM. Do you know any program?

those were 4bit 22.05KHz adpcm's, encoded with Audacity's ffmpeg encoder library, for the game.
here's the original sound files.
...just use Audacity for everything.

Edit: i didn't realize that XCC Sound Editor automatically converted them if you input 16bit linear-pcm's.
I decided just to say screw it, i wasn't going to do it just for lion sounds, but then i found other things wanted sounds for too and whatever, backing up one file is no big whoop.

ps: showcases are cool and all but they're a pain if the technicalities aren't run-through (else it's a bunch of reverse engineering)
