Have you considered using a feature of 3D rendering programs, such as 3D Studio Max, known as: baking ambient occlusion?

What would that do? I see that it applies shadows to texture... but why would that matter...

Actually, yes.

It matters because the lack of any shadows on 3D renderings can make them confusing to look at sometimes. The official game engine does not apply any self-shadowing on voxels. Therefore, it may be necessary to implement it on them, in this way, for this engine.

I don't know where to request or ask for help but since it's MadHQ's work, I guess it's fine on this thread...

Can someone help me on coding(Probably or most likely the Art code) for Soviet Tank Bunker? What I did is copying the art code of Yuri Tank Bunker and of course replacing the shp name files(YATBNK -> NATBNK). Results are failures... One failure is the Tank Bunker is invisible and this usually occurs. I tried a different approach but the Tank Bunker's image is overlapping wholly the unit.

I'm very noob at this and I'm just getting started. I hope someone can help me for the art codes of Soviet Tank Bunker...

So, I decided to try and look into how to make normal's rotate with the vpl...

And I was hoping that I could find some kind of simple math to figure it out... But I just can not come up with it...

So after hours of frustration and trial and error I can up with a 32,245 size array, pointer look up thing for normal rotation for 32 unit facings...

Ah! well as I said above that was just a rotation test/development.

I am still struggling with how to distribute the normal's across the sphere properly.

I have just come up with an possible solution for that idea last night, I am going to have to put to a test some time soon, I juts have lots to do IRL for right now...

To me, this is a multi level development challenge. I would like to think I am getting there... It does just take time.

Actually ViPr, the default lighting actually does have that effect in game, that's why there's so much discussion around fixing the vpl.

Yes, but then that big grey patch should be white instead. The final render 8 bit integer RGB colour component values should clamp to 255 and not less than that.

Also, to avoid so much clamping, he might need to make the sphere a darker shade of grey. He already knows how to do that because you can see in this thread that he has been doing that with his sphere tests in the official game engine.

LOL, its odd that people still get a kick out that shark voxel...


Anyways...

The odd thing is that both ViPr and G-E are right...  Laughing

I did not have the colors set right, I was not to concerned about that, as that is not such a difficult fix. But it is fixed in the voxel render links below.

And yes the voxels in game have a very bright patch. See image below.




Anyways, here is an update for my voxel render. The changes I made in this update I really do not like. I am using less of the 32 sections then I think I should. However, the voxels still look fine... So I am not sure what to think about it... I still like this update though...

**On a side note** I have deleted a lot of the .php files for the links found in this topic. So if links I have posted in the past do not work, it just means they do not exist anymore.

Okay, this is much better. The sphere looks almost identical in your render and the game. However, there seems to be what looks similar to what is called 'banding'. Your sphere almost seems to have the lighting amounts clumping to merely 5 levels, rather than more smoothly transitioning between dark and light. However, there are not exactly just 5 lighting levels because then we would not see any variation in grey shades within each of those 5 sections, but we do. So, something a bit more complicated must be happening here, apparently.

Ya it sort of does look like banding, however, its mostly from how I go the normal's to spreed across the whole sphere... I do not think I have it 100% but its I think its close enough for right now...

I like open-terrain battle à la TS more than RA2's cluttered urban warfare, so these are totally for me.
(Not that there aren't RA2/YR maps that are open-spaced, but I appreciate having more of them)

Yes having nice looking maps is nice but balance wise it's not fun unless comp stomp and even then it's like why do I have to start here.

Notorious examples include Tour Of Egypt and Heck Freezes Over position 7 I think.

Non mirror maps are better for campaign or survival, rather than standard battles.

Mirror maps are far easier to balance out.

Also yeah I prefer flatter more open maps as it doesn't cause pathfinding issues for the AI.

So its been a wail since my last post here... I just graduated with a B.S. Computer Science degree, so I have been a little busy...

Anyways... In my spare time I have done a little more mapping...
And for the hell of it I decided to chop up a few maps to make a few smaller ones... Kind of anti climatic... but a fun idea I think...

I have released 4 new maps. Probably not usable with other mods.
Now these maps are a little odd... Every once in a wail I like to do some thing different.
In this case, these maps spawn lots of neutral units that move across the map.

TBH... I am just glad to be done with these... They were to time consuming and odd...

Seriously I've had new farm crops and dirt transition tiles on my todo list since I started my urban expansion specifically for something like that. Tactically I have a map that's very similar called Iceflow.

A little blast from my past!
While cleaning my apartment I found an old flash drive I used for back-up. So I investigated what was on it.
Now, there was not too much, or really anything of value. However, I figure I can release whatever I want.

There was 5 maps (all of which I had to make a lazy attempt to finish).



There was also 2 voxels that I thought I had lost (Two Renegade conversions).


There was also a few unfinished shp's, and there was a collection of map doodad things.



The flash drive also contains audio sets for two units I record for one of Allied General mods.
The mod is long since gone and dead, so I might as well put them on my site for a laugh.
I created a audio section in the left sidebar other section if you want to listen/laugh/download, the recording is not great.
I have added 3 wav files of each set to the news post on my site, there are more in the audio section.

I also found and put up some other fun images to the gallery section on my site, that found on that drive. These two maybe the best.

So, I just recently purchased a hard drive to USB adapter thing. This gave me the opportunity to hunt through my now dead desktop
hard drive. On this drive I found lots of unfinished stuff that I figured I could put up on the site.

Starting off this larger then normal news post, is what I hope is the most current version of my Empire Of The Rising Sun mod.
Note** as with most of my stuff it is not complete, but should still be playable.




Along with the mod I have decided to release all assets from the mod in individual downloads.
The images below show some of resources, and of course not all are finished, but could be usable.





Up next is some terrain sets that I was working on. None were 100% finished but could be used
if someone is clever enough. This news post only shows 2 of the 4 sets.



Moveing right along, there are some more voxels added to the site.
