[Building] Soviet Airbase
Subject description: complete with build ups, active anim and snow theater
Spoiler (click here to read it):
The building uses a hanger and control tower from RoN, re-schemed into RA2 Soviet colours, complete with brick walls.
4 landing areas divided into 2 for the ease of selecting 2-fighter squads for defensive purposes.
The structure itself is 3x3.
P.S. I'm not sure if the shadows are right. I can easily adjust them if someone can point me in the right direction (pun intended) in terms of shadow direction. Maybe a bit of skewing will do the trick?
P.P.S. I'll probably make a build up, once I feel the building itself is perfect. Oh, and animations too.
EDIT 1:

Alright, I've completed all the animation, and the download now includes all the necessary files (8 of them including the build ups).
Nice looking structure, people are always looking for soviet airports.
Generally shadows for objects that aren't VXL's or infantry, go in the E-NE direction pictured below:
(sorry didn't get time to crop it)
Depending on what program you're working in, I'm sure we can help you change your shadow light to match, if you need it. You got the height of the shadow right though. _________________ "Don't beg for things; Do it yourself or you'll never get anything." QUICK_EDIT
The tower is very disproportional to the hanger & landing pads IMO. I'd suggest decreasing the size of the tower to around half of what it currently is. _________________
not bad
though as mentioned by Mig, the proportions could be better.
-the door and windows are too huge compared to the rather tiny landing pads
-the tower too big
Do you made this as a rendered 3d-model or is this a photoshop cut&paste job?
In 3D I always create as a helper a dummy box in the size of a human and then use this as a reference for other stuff. -> Makes things easier when creating the smaller details and getting their sizes right _________________ SHP Artist of Twisted Insurrection: Nod buildings
Based on your feedback, I've reduced the tower's size, but made it longer, so it stays the same height. Making it shorter makes the hanger/hut look a bit too big
@LKO, this is me on PS. I've been trying 3d modelling (both on 3ds Max, as well as blender), but so far, I haven't accumulated enough skill to make an actual good-looking building in it.
This one is using parts of the Airbase found in Rise of Nations, Soviet Conyard's Base, and brick texturing from the Soviet Naval Yard ('s piller?) that I patterned. The rest is from scratch.
I'll modify the damaged frames once I get the undamaged ones right.
P.S. are there any public assets around that can help with side-scheming stuff? like this brick texture? things that have Allied/Soviet written all over them when you see them.
EDIT: Updated the First Post with new preview.

Pretty good, but I would take more care in stretching the sections, it looks like they jerk at different rates when they move together. Either make them appear to accelerate and decelerate together, or stretch one section at a time. _________________ http://www.moddb.com/mods/scorched-earth-ra2-mod-with-smart-ai QUICK_EDIT
@G-E: That was actually intentional. I like it when build-ups appear "phased" instead of too (how westwood puts it) "normalized", where everything seems to happen at the same rate. As it is, the tower builds until it reaches a few feet, then continues after the hanger roofing has finished as they both develop (at different, but relative rates, nonetheless) together until the hanger is finished, at which point the tower develops at a slower rate (3 pixels per frame).
Of course, I can post a normalized version if you intend to use it
P.S. Do you guys think I should reduce the snow a bit from the roof? IMO, it looks a bit out of place with the rest of the soviet structures in game. [/quote] QUICK_EDIT
How could i miss this! Before there was only one normal air-base for Soviets(the one used in Red Resurrection mod) - but now there are two!!
The only thing i miss here is some symbolics. Since it's meant to be Soviet, some red flag on tower or say small hammer'n'sickle on landing pads, would add side's touch.
Cause currently it looks kinda neutral, like a tech air-base for capture.(which is a good variant too, but still fulfilling initial idea would be good) QUICK_EDIT
There actually are more soviet themed airbases, both complete and incomplete ones at various resource sites around here. I think MadHQ has a nice one over on his site.
The unique thing about this design is probably the split landing pads.
Maybe I will make another attempt at a soviet airbase in a similar design. QUICK_EDIT
