"Lets get one thing straight: the Convoy variant came first. The Fortress variant was built after the Scavs found it impractical to use a giant tanker truck for combat and it was easy to see why. Moving such a long trailer during the heat of battle was a pain in the ass and the resources put into building one meant that it was too valuable to be an expandable asset. So their mechanists had to build a cheaper compromise.
The Fortress variant was so called due to being used as a mobile bunker/barricade within Scavenger camps, although its not unheard of for them to take one or two out on raids. It hauls a "Battle Box", modified from a short box trailer that could only carry enough ammo and supplies for the crew and the additional six escorts assigned to it. No swarmer missile turrets or expanded cargo space for more supplies and additional infantry squads, just dual tractor-mounted machineguns and six guys of your choosing perched on top. It does have one trick up it's sleeve: in the event that the tractor is knocked out of commission, the Battle Box remains largely intact though marooned at it's current location, enabling surviving passengers to use it as cover until help arrives."
