I encrypt my mixes with leechkiller and decide to test the game and found some bugs with not working anims and some infantry sequences.

It's known faulty tool, use any other such tool if you must as they work without issue unlike LK.

Aren't we at the point where these encrypted mixes can be cracked easily enough that this step is irrelevant?

You'd think so, but here we are.

They aren't encrypted, they are just badly formatter such that they fail the XCC "Is this a mix file check". Other tools not based on XCC code should be able to open them fine.

Do those tools exist still?

Ccmix still exists though I'm not maintaining it anymore if anyone wants to base tools on that. Also the mix reading code as used in the original game is available in https://github.com/TheAssemblyArmada/Chronoshift source code for other tools to be based on. RA2 uses a slightly different hashing algo for the name to id mapping but the code is the same otherwise.
