My problem always is, if you're not gonna use it like a Harrier, why bother? ok, it's 5x as big as an aircraft, now what?

Now use a bigger airpad? With Ares, I make it so there's different "classes" of aircraft that require different airpad types, one being an airfield (Mig Eater released one I use to hold only two larger aircraft on).

Sorry, but I get a 2x airfield, but this is insanity, unless it carries a 15 minute nuke too, an at least 8x16 is insane. there's a reson why

That's a great way to blur and otherwise distort all the single pixel wide details. You have to draw voxels with shrinkage in mind to do that properly, anything smaller than 90% of its original size will look like crap otherwise...

I also don't see much in the way of normals edges/details that would highlight the parts.

I'm well aware of that, but it's still better than having a hilariously oversized unit. Besides, 1-voxel wide details already look like crap without shrinkage.

I've dealt with loads of public assets that need to be resized to fit the game's style, and I've found that it only really starts to become problematic once you start shrinking over 20-30%, and this model doesn't need anything more than that. Past that, and you start having problems with the Voxel Offset in HVA Builder not matching what you observe in-game.

This particular art style is fighting against normals shine, and all it does in my eyes is make the unit bland -- understanding of course the Mig-31 is rather boxy, it still lacks internal shadows and gradients to separate large features visually.
