Hello mortals! Here I present to you Boris Bear! Actually Boris riding a bear! It is cool idea which can bring fun, Russian soldier on Russian bear! Contain all frames except cralw, logically.
Here in example codes I provided you codes as regular unit, not Hero. Since somewhat armored man attached to bear, it got slightly more strenght than regular polar bear. Decent firepower, self heal and slow speed. This unit will scare enemies and show Soviet power!

ANimalMan, I knew that you will like it. Yo uare bond to animals after all.
Yes! I was thining about that too. We lack logic where two units can merge together and separate, perhaps via deploy command or such... that would be epic.
Merging only works for visceroids.

If the viceroids free movement was booled off from the main code then players could utilise the viceroid base logic to achieve this. But as well aren’t viceroid a vehicle type? So maybe not..



But wait


You could give the bear unit a special weapon that kills itself and boris from point blank range. Only targets Boris who get unique armour. Special cursor. And makes infantry Bear Boris. Boris choose bear not allowed but bear choose Boris will work. You might be able to deploy, death weapon to release Boris from bear, if death weapon can be made to chain 2 warheads containing make infantry

This way you can have War Bear and Boris as separate units with special relationship like Volkov and Chitzkoi.

AnimalMan, viceroids are vehicle types I think. That logic works for vehicle types in Ares as well.
That thing you mentioned could be hard to implement for very little result. We need clean logic for that to work. I wasted two days to make Manimal work, this one is even more uglier because there is no merging/unmerging logic at all.

Saref, nice concept arts, never saw them! I think I saw once few years ago medalmonkey in his signature has some infantry on bear, so I decided to do this as well with boris.

NimoStar how? Anim to Infantry creates infantry on death. it can create infantry but neutral. Also you can have one, not two infantries. Like I said, I have been playing around for two days constantly with Manimal,inf death seem to be problematic in some circumstances. We need badly infantry to infantry transformation. AlexB forgot to include it in Ares when made it working with IsSimpleDeployer=yes tag as infantry cannot use such tag. Since AlexB is absent for some time, I requested it here https://ppmforums.com/post-599441/phobos-project-ares-compatible-yr-engine-expansion/#598983 you can support this request as well because we are constantly making infantry shps, often which require deploy logic. About merging, that would be nice, but I wonder if it will ever happen.

Big bear limbo launched into Boris. And didn’t return from limbo (I have played with dogs a lot and I know there is a set up where the dog can just vanish after limbo launch) the WH then converts Boris into bear Boris. Don’t worry about returning to normal Boris. Bear is advanced speed boost. And additional HP. Same weapons though. Maybe Swim ability. Why would you want to dismount the bear? Though one bug will exist on Boris death and that is his unit count. Since when Boris becomes bear Boris he will be available in the barracks again. Unless overridden I guess.

Imagine soviets with Jump Gate war factory, bring war mammoths and mounted war bears from the ice age. That would be for me the ultimate version of the Soviets.

I know how to do this, I already released code in Manimal.
But it is one to one unit deploy, not two into one merging.

Hmmm.. this idea sounds interesting! I also managed once to make libo launch disappear accidentally. But I was testing mind control parasite back then.

hehe, and you appear to have Mammoth! You only need tank guns on it. technically another barracks which creates those two types. Mounted bears anti infantry/anti air with machine guns, mounted mammoths with armor piercing anti tanks/anti buildings! That is nice idea Smile

And I think parasite = no on limbolaunch = yes will trap the unit in limbo.



The bear combination itself actually put Boris on stat par with Tanya. Having same movement speed. Ability to swim. And if he gets HP boost he can tank an additional shot from her which will allow his own weapon to result a 50/50 in the match up. But obviously they pay price for Boris + bear. While allies only pay price for Tanya. So she still has an edge.

Bear alone could fill the role of an Anti-Dog instead of replacing the Attack Dog, it shouldn’t be a spy sniffer.

I think that was actually planed at one stage from Red Alert 3 development. There is also the thing about Soviet going to the dinosaur age in RA2 and the new all-soviet time machine in RA3.

As you have seen there is the concept of Soviet mammoth and also an "Ursa Maioris" giant bear.

Another idea (I am not deep enough into RA2 programming to know if this would work - but with paratrooper plane logic it should) - make the Bear as a vehicle with Boris as a passenger upon creation - and when the vehicle (Bear) is destroyed Boris is spawned.

Ares has a logic for forbidden buildings (mutually exclusive to each other) but I do not know if this extends to units.

Ursa Major is in an Uprising challenge mission but it’s just a resized war bear model.

I like a lot of the thought that went into Mammoth play style in ra3 having it immune or resistant to Cryo technology. Hints that cryo was going to play a bigger role at countering conventional vehicles. But ra3 only had the cryocopter, and then uprising introduced the ice man, but he was quite expensive late game infantry. Unlike the Tesla trooper they put the Cryo Legionaire into the Desolator tier.  Bloody expensive
