Siskin, thing are a bit different in foreign/western countries...

Orbiter fan - welcome to PPM forums! Cant help you much, but you should read a tutorial about 3d stuff by meselfs. Search for it in TS ot RA2 tutorial section, I don't remember in which one of them though...

obiter, if you find anim8or hard, try using Gmax, its a not-so-good free version of 3ds max.i used to use it for my buildings in TS

I reccomend [url=http://www.amabilis.com">3D Canvas[/url]. It is very easy to learn and its free, but there are also Plus and Pro versions that, if you like the free version, you should get. I got the pro version and it has so many great features and its awesome.

The only problem is that you can only use this program for 8 hours.

hmm sketch up is interesting....but only for specific things......such as buildings and landscapes.....it will never be any good on moddeling organic objects.such as humans and other stuff. you cannot go into to much detail with this nor make animations that are worth watching.
still useful for a lot of stuff

it's a good program for architects and beginners in 3d modelling

interesting and i meant something else with detail....you can hardly make the world look real the colors and materials are pretty bland.
as i it is a good program for a lot of things ...mainly making buildings, mechas and a landscape( ground)...not a true environment

this : http://www.artificial3d.com/images/kingnozo.jpg

is what i meant with detail.i'm sure you won't EVER be able to achieve that with SketchUp.
and i have a single conclusion : it's totally free so hey

You guys are forgetting, this isn't about Blender or SketchUp, it's about 3DCanvas! Wink

Check these out!:

They aren't as good as mine (Wink) but they're still pretty awesome!

To be honest, each program looks as though it's good for different things. The 3D Canvas looks good for static scenes, Blender3D is good for high-poly models and Sketchup (obviously) looks best for doing sketch-type concept art renders.

Rebel, didn't you show many of those pictures at the TiberiumSun.com forums some time ago? I have to say, the new ones, like Nod warfactory and powerplant, are excellent!

I personally dislike 3D canvas, I'm not entirely sure why,

Blender3D is always a fine choice, I guess.

The freeware setup that interests me the most is Wings3D + Yafray, although this would make animation quite difficult. Maybe I'd change my mind if I really learned blender.

The finest sketch renderer is Sketch & Toon:
http://www.maxon.net/pages/products/c4d/modules/sketch/sketch_e.html

You can make something look truly hand drawn with that sucker. Unfortunately, it's neither free nor standalone.

Maybe I should update my little guide. There's a few errenous things in it, such as isometric camera.

Meh. I dislike Blender. Then again, I also dislike Wings...  Meh. I don't really like any free 3D program other than 3D Canvas (Even though I bought the Pro version) I just wish I could afford Cinema4D Sad
