The Ares guide makes the following statement:

Ares 3.0 Documentation wrote:

In Red Alert 2, the Cloning Vats reverse-engineered any infantry it was sent into.

I don't remember this feature at all. The C&C wiki also doesn't offer a documentation of it, but instead describes the CV as grinding infantry for cash refund, which is in line with what I remember it to be doing in vanilla:
Command and Conquer Wiki wrote:

Infantry units could be sent into the Soviet cloning vats to be "recycled", giving credits to the owner.

Am I misunderstanding what "reverse engineering" means? Did the CV do something like Ares' Reverse Engineering in any version of RA2?

Yes, the CV does revengineer the infantry one sends into it. I've only checked it out once though. It's fairly situational afterall.

Yes, the rumour way back when was that in RA2 V1.0 the cloning vats would reverse-engineer infantry, supported by unused cursors in mouse.sha, a rumour I repeated without checking when I requested said feature.

Long and short is the Wiki is correct, the vats grind infantry for moneys, I checked not long ago.

Regardless, it's a cool feature, so yay rumours.

Well, these are two very different statements. Maybe different builds of vanilla RA2 had this differently?

It's possible, but I don't know how "Situational" MCing a GI with aYuri, sending him to the clone vats, and receiving cash, but no buildable GI, is.

I very much doubt there are multiple different RA2 V1.0's, but as always, will gladly be proven wrong.

Works on Vanilla RA2, any version.
