Given that there are many mods that added multiple structures to the original game, most original maps need extra build space for the main bases.

Indeed, many of the converted maps had the player locations expanded significantly to work well with the AI's building planning. Humans are far more creative in placement, so it's just the AI behaviour that needs attention.

Inching ever closer to an update after half a year...

Still too busy to really commit to getting the todo list items like buildings or roads that take a lot of time, so just squeezing in the occasional voxel, many of which are made easier by sharing much of the design of another already made.
