Subject description: How to cheat in singleplayer

Hi all,
I just found this really nice mod some 20 years after my last contact with the c&c universe and I am quite amazed. Really neat.

Now call me looser, lamer or whatever you want, I find the singeplayer missions insanely difficult even in easy mode. The AI keeps throwing hords and hords and more hords of units at me and I can't even take a breath.

In weeks with saving and re-starting over and over, I somehow made it through until CR route B #17 "Expel the Interloper", but Nod throws wave after wave of nasty chem troopers at me, destroying everything in a few minutes.

YES, I wan to cheat. Just for fun. Just to destroy everything. Just to get further.

Searching the web for hours, I found - nothing. There are lots of trainers for the original c&c games, but I found none for DTA.

I tried messing with cheat engine for the money and I can get it to display more money, but I can't spent the displayed money. It somehow seems to have another internal address where the actual amount of money is stored a second time.

Then I tried CnC rules editor, but unfortunately that app is for V13.1 and not 13.5 of DTA and the game crashes every time I try to start it whith a new rules.ini.

Any Ideas? No, I do not want hints or tutorials for the mission. I want a cheat.

Cheers!

You can just open INI/Rules.ini and INI/Enhance.ini with Notepad or an equivalent and modify the game rules there. Most if it should be fairly self-explanatory after you have browsed the file for a bit.

The client will scold you for cheating, but you can still complete missions and unlock new missions with modified files - you just can't earn completion rank stars with modified files.

Good job on getting to CR B#17 btw - that certainly isn't bad for someone who has had a break of 20 years.

Thank you. This brought me significantly further.

Anyway, would it be possible to add some easier difficulties to the game? I mean, even "easy" is actuall quite the opposite of "easy" and in later missions, there is even no "easy" anymore, making "normal" the easiest difficulty...

I mean, I can't be the only person just wanting casual gameplay for leisure instead of frustration?

Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert 1 were pretty hard games to begin with. DTA missions have been largely built on top of that legacy - compared to later TD/RA1 campaign missions as well as expansion missions, DTA's "Easy" and "Normal" difficulties are probably in line with them.

Our campaigns have been designed to make you think and reward good tactics, strategy as well as execution, since that kind of challenge is the point of RTS games for many fans of the genre, and it is also what makes the missions fun for ourselves.

For fans this has been a divisive aspect - like you, some have wanted a casual experience where they can just enjoy the story and blow stuff up, while others have enjoyed the challenge as part of the experience. Some have even been inspired by the difficulty and have re-played the campaign on higher difficulty levels after their first playthrough, pushing their skills further.

We won't be revising existing missions to add easier difficulty modes to them, but you can try playing some of the other missions/campaigns than Covert Revolt (if you haven't yet). If you want some more casual gameplay, I'd also recommend Skirmish, which has a large number of customization options. For example, increasing starting money tends to make skirmish games easier.
