The latest game in the popular Command and Conquer series has angered the Chinese for portraying the country as a terrorist base.
In Generals from Electronic Arts, set in the year 2020, players can also blow up famous landmarks such as Tiananmen Square.
The game has provoked outrage in the Chinese press, with gamers describing it as an insult.
Although the game has not been released in China, pirated copies of it are freely available.

Hmmm... as long as it doesnt disrepct the following part of the TOS, go ahead:
Quote:
1) I agree not to post, transmit, transfer, or make available, in any way, anything within, but not limited to, the following: copyrighted or illegal software or materials, adult content, porn, hentai, drugs, full version programs, warez, media clips, or anything else deemed unacceptable by local, state, and federal laws.
And also that doesnt insult any forum member and doesnt post any link or content estimulating use of trainers online... QUICK_EDIT
i know that in Europe, CnC Generals with the "Pro - American" was banned, so EA Europe send some message to EA Pacific and a new version very less aspect american left QUICK_EDIT
I think they should just shutup and accept it, IT'S A GAME. It's not going to cause terroists to suddenly all go and live in China because CnC Generals say's that's where they should be and neither will it cause anyone (anyone who at least knows what's going on in the world) to think that China is open to terrorists. In the same way a game is not going to make you want to shoot someone and neither will rock music. It's a storyline the same as you would find in any book. The game is about war, in war you have winners and losers, the game is meant to reflect modern times and as such needed names that people could relate to. So it features America as the dominant superpower (it's an American game afterall) and a terrorist organisation. It could have featured Iraq and Saddam Hussein but it didn't. China was obviously much more attractive to the story writers. If the Chinese want to make a game where they conquer the world and kick America's **** let them, hell, if it was any good i'd probably buy it. Call it an insult if you will, if a game featured the UK as a country run by terrorist's i'd most likely be insulted but, and i'll say it again, IT'S A GAME!!! No-one believes it (except maybe that small percentage of people who believe everything theyr'e told) and no-one will really pay much attention to it, except now. If the Chinese Government continue to draw attention to it the press will get hold of the story and rumours will start going round, "hmmm.......i wonder what they're trying to hide" etc.... SO JUST LET IT BE.
(sorry if this does insult any forum member, this is my opinion, i am entitled to it and you are are entitled to yours, you might agree you might disagree, either way it's your opinion and i will respect it and i expect you to respect mine) QUICK_EDIT

no hentai, Tapek. Sorry, bug it's Doug's and FP's rules.
Now Tratos, you live in England, right? So... Imagine an that releases a game where there are 3 sides: UK, Soviets and Terorrists.
Then you play UK campaign... map 2, for example:
"The terrorists are using the Big Ben to make their ultimate global meeting.
Objective 1: Destroy the Big Ben."
Or... for you americans:
"The terrorists are using World Trade Center has their ultimate global meeting. United Airlines have donated some Boeings for this mission, so you can destroy the WTC with them on 9/11.
Objective 1: Use the Boeings to demolish the WTC"
In this POV, it's just a game, but I have to agree with chinese... QUICK_EDIT
But Generals has absoulutly no relation to real life, except the idea behind it, using Boeings to destroy the WTC does, and many people lost their lives then, something which would give complainers a real case. QUICK_EDIT

But meh, it's still bad, specially if you see in the POV of a government. Remember that you doesnt take it seriously, lucky you, but lots of people does. They have to consider both cases, specially the ones who does, and in this case... they just hate the game... QUICK_EDIT
I hear ya', man. Noone understands sarcasm these days. I think everyone at my school seriously believes I've eaten the arm of a Zombie... But then, everyone at my school is high all the time so it could be just an isolated incident. QUICK_EDIT
personally i think the chinese a being whiney! it's not exactly the first time a nation has been portraid as the bad guys, they just need to look past their damn pride and get over it..
i mean, think about it, in previous command and conquer games, have all the accents been english or american? NO!!
and as for the whole influence thing, the only people stupid enough to become violent towards someone because of a game are the type of people who would become violence towards someone for an prolonged look...
i'm english and i'd be proud to get a chance to blow up big ben in order to kill the bad guys :p _________________ QUICK_EDIT

China is a socialist country. One of the most important characteristics of the socialist regime from China is that people need motivation to work. You know? They will not grow, get recognized and everything is defined by government. So, many people may even work with things that they hate, but government wants them to work with it... How do you think they make these people work?
Two things are basic: fear of punishments and the assurance that they are working for a system that improves their life, that doesnt allow them to be hungry, that will aid them forever to survive.
So, the chinese govern makes propaganda, impose the order and give the basic resources for people live. The government system must never be discredited by its population, or it falls. It happened with USSR and other comunists countries... including Iraq.
Chinese have a different point of view of their government than what the game says from chineses. Obviously, the game is not reality, but they portrait somethings real (or that they think it's real) from China. The impressions it leaves on them might make some of them questionate the system. So, before it happened, the chinese government invoked the people to protest against the game and made a hell of a propaganda against it...
But for us, it's just a game... who cares? _________________
