It's great. I must say the US Army is really suicidal. About 10 or so Humvees, about 10-15 Apaches & a couple of M1s go up against one (I think) tripod.
Still, the Humvees serve their purpose, as Ray grabs three frag grenades from one after they grab his daughter.
I haven't read the book, or seen the original movie.
In the end, it's great. It has the tripods dieing, then a small speech about how the aliens were doomed the from moment they landed on Earth.

!!!Do Not Read If You Want To be Suprised By The Movie!!!
In the very beggining it has a voice talking about that there's another planet with aliens, which want to invade Earth. It starts with Ray (main character) driving home to meet his ex-wife, who is leaving their kids(her ten-year-old daughter, Rachel, & their older son, Robby) with him, while she goes off to visit her mom with her current husband. In Europe, it has lightning strikes which not only wipe out everything electronic (EMP strikes) but actually deliver the aliens to huge Tripods, which can kill a human in one blast, disintigrating them, as well as being able to eat them.
In the US, Ray plays ball with Robby, then goes to sleep, Robby takes Ray's souped-up car, & Rachel orders from a health food place. Ray wakes up, goes down to the living room, grabs a bite of what Rachel ordered. He asked her what it was. She said Humnus. He said he meant real food. Rachel then tells him Robby took the car.
Ray runs outside, sees the car missing, then notices the crowd looking at the sky. He moves into the street for a better view, then tells some of the people that you can see better from from his backyard. He notices that the wind is blowing toward the storm. He calls Rachel outside, then the lightning flashes a couple of times, then they go inside, then it strikes a nearby spot. Ray says lightning never hits the same spot twice, then, (suprise, suprise), it hits the same spot not only once, but several time. Ray runs outside, then Robby runs up then, says the car just died (EMP). Ray tells Robby to get into the house, then Ray runs to where the lightning struck, on the way telling someone how to fix a van(Which help in the future, BTW) Once there, everyone crowds around a big hole the lightning made. It starts to move. It's a Tripod. Ray runs home (with some detours, along the way) Ray tells Robby & Rachel to get ready to leave. He goes up to his room & grabs a revolver under his bed. He then goes to the van, hijacks it, then leaves the city, for his ex-wife's home. I can't remember much of the trip there.
They get there at night. No one's home. He tries to make them something to eat. Neither of them are hungry. They sleep in the basement, & for some reason, a big jetliner crashes into the house. In the morning, Ray walks upstairs to see what happened. There's a couple of reporters getting water from the crash. They(Ray & co) decide to go to Boston. On the way, Rachel has to go to the bathroom. Ray told her to stay where he can see her. She wanders to the edge of a river. Bodies go floating past. Ray scares her, then they go back to the van. Robby tries to get a US Military Convoy to stop. He wants to join them. Ray & Robby have a discussion, then Robby changes his mind.
They continue to go to Boston. At night, they try to get on a ferry with the van. They get dragged out, Ray pulls out his revolver. A guy with a better pistol tells Ray to drop the gun & that he'll take the van. Ray does as he asks, then someone picks the revolver up, then shoots at the guy. The mob follows the van. Ray & his family walk into a diner. They continue to the ferry. They meet some family, then try to get the whole family on the ferry. They can't. Only Ray, Robby, & Rachel manage to get on board. The ferry sinks shortly afterwards, as a Tripod surfaces next to the ship, sinking it. The family make it to the shore.
After that, they walked near a battle (a bunch of Humvees, a couple of M1s & a bunch of Apaches attacking one or two Tripods. Guess who won.). Robby tries to join the army, again.
A pair of refugees try to take Rachel, thinking she has no family, Ray has to let Robby go to save Rachel from being taken away. Robby "dies". Rachel & Ray run to a nearby basement, which is owned by a shotgun wielding crazy. They spend a few days in the basement, & almost get found once & get found the second time. Ray almost hacks the thing off.
While he almost hacks it off, Rachel runs upstairs & out of the house. Ray runs outside after her. He shouts for her, then stands by a pond. A Tripod steps in the pond, scaring the hell outta him. The Tripod tries to get him. He runs into a pickup truck. The Tripod flips the truck over, then he sees Rachel, standing on a ridge. The Tripod then decides to get her, instead. Ray climbed out of the truck, then ran to a damaged humvee, grabbing a belt of Frag Grenades. He throws one at the Tripod, screams at it, then gets picked up by it. He gets dropped into a cage. He scrambles to to Rachel, then sees the belt of Frag Grenades he'd dropped. They were in the cage, within easy reach. The Tripod tries te eat him. Everyone in the cage pulls him back into the cage. He spits out two pins, then a soldier in the cage tells everybodt to get down. Boom. One less Tripod to deal with.
Next scene shows Ray & Rachel walking into Boston. A very wrecked Boston. Ray walks to a statue, then pulls part of the vine covering it off, then disentigrates it with his hand. They keep walking, then Ray asks a couple of soldiers what was wrong with a tripod that had collapsed into a building. He was told that it had started to walk in cicles about an hour ago, then just collapsed. Ray tells some soldier something. The next scene follows a squad of soldiers attacking another Tripod, with rocket launchers & M-16/M-4s After about 10ish rockets, it falls to the ground. It vents some orange substance, then the alien inside falls halfway out. A soldier pokes it with his rifle, then tells the squad it's dead.
Next scene shows Ray & Rachel walking to Ray's ex-wife's mom's house. Rachel's family walks out. Rays ex-wife thanks him, then Robby walk out after them, with a little more soot on his face, but otherwise no worse for wear.
The very end has it zooming into raindrops on a leaf, with the same voice at the beggining, saying (This is almost exact) "The aliens were defeated by the littlest thing. From the moment they breathed our air, drank our water, & ate our food, they were doomed. After almost a billion deaths, God decided that the humans had proven themselvs worthy". _________________ "Banned" RP here QUICK_EDIT
