Open Map Competition 3: TS 4th Place Is...
During the organization of this event, one of the most discussed subjects was triggers. In other editions, they already had the polemic 10% which made a great difference in the final results. On this edition, we raised its weight to 15%. Why? Because we don't want dead maps. A good use of triggers brings life to a map and makes it an extra challenge. Dynamic maps are more entertaining and players who make good use of it, can change the situation in their favour.
The 4th place is Absturz. He is probably the person with the best knowledge of the TS AI and triggers that I've heard about it. He has a site that has a great reference on the TS AI for all modders and mapers out there: Command & Conquer Artificial Inteligence. The site explains the AI in english and german. He's been a forum member for some time in TiberiumSun.com and in the last edition, his map Alpenfestung didn't arrived on my email, so I had to give him a honourable mention. However, the map is available with the OMC 2 Map Pack. His great knowledge on triggers reflects on his score: 14.6% of the possible 15% only with triggers. Only one judge didn't give him the maximum score on that.
His map, Finland, is one of the biggest 8 players maps, quite detailed and very dynamic. It includes several internal missions, events, living cities, among inumerous cool features. But it has a price: it's the slowest map submitted in all editons and lags in the day/night transitions. This map is also the one with the best presentation, where the author made a HTML page with several screenshots to explain every single feature of the map. This reflects in the size of the zip of this map: 1mb. You can view the documentation of the map HERE. This map was clearly made to be a winner, but it was unlucky with the judges that had lower end machines. Here's the details:

Tomorrow we'll be revealing the 3rd place from the Tiberian Sun maps. The names that are left are: Muldrake, Tesla7zap and Willshire. All 3 are old school people. Willshire has been modding TS before I joined the community. He came from Eclipse Network. Does anyone still remember that? Tesla7zap is the winner of first Open Map Competition. Muldrake has been working for a long time on Tiberian Sun Retro and now he is helping Tiberium Odyseey!
In other news, we haven't confirmed the 3rd place prizes. I'd like to ask everyone for some patience. So far, what we know is that the third place will gain the space in CnC Depot and a TibEd 1 registration, but there is a possibility for something else like a... Sealed copy of Red Alert 2 Collector’s Edition (with figurine)... that wouldn't be bad, would it? Last edited by Banshee on Sat Aug 27, 2005 2:07 pm; edited 1 time in total QUICK_EDIT
My god.
I've always loved interactive maps.. but.. I've never seen anything like this.
Its so very realistic, I haven't been to Finland, but if its anything like Northern Sweden, its damn realistic.
The triggers are brilliant, so much happens, its incredible, especially for such a large map, but then you do get laggy. Definitely the best trigger map in all existance, without a doubt!
Fantastic map, utterly fantastic. Theres nothing else really to say.. just wow.
And my map isn't better than this one, whats up guys!?
It should have been called out at the beginning of the score revealing, not this far in! _________________ If there is a problem on the forums, PM me. QUICK_EDIT
