And these hilarious gaming stories that we have to share...
Today I was testing Tiberium Future: A Dying World with the sound fixed and I had a really weird game. My purpose was to test the mod and find out its features, units, etc... so I didn't play it seriously. You'll figure it out once you read the paragraphs below.
I was playing Ionic Frequency (spotlighted map here) that comes with the mod. My factions was GDI, Tech Level 10 and against 1 random AI. I started in the north west side of the map. There is a hill close to my start point with an entrance that I've opened in the beggining of the game that had a trap with 4 visceroids. The hill was full of red tiberium, while there was a green tiberium in a safe place close to me. Once I've built my first harvester, I've sent it to the red tiberium when I finally noticed a presence of a fiend there. I've sent everything I had to kill that fiend, however, it exploded the tiberium and killed my own harvester. With this bad start I've built two other refineries and 6 extra harvesters to save my economy.
Once my economy was set up, I started teching to get a superweapon to counter AI. The AI launched me a nuclear missile, but it hit a cliff and it didn't damage anything from me at all. I also had some units to ensure that my base was protected. I was so distracted with my base that the noob here forgot to scout the enemy. Everything was fine until an Ion Storm happens.
Ion Storm on small maps tends to be more dangerous than in bigger maps, but the mod tweaks the Ion Storm to be even more evil. Then, my drama started. My harvesters already consumed all tiberium close to my base and my economy was slower. The Ion Storm was hitting my power plants constantly and my cash started to not be enough to repair them. I was trying to hold them, so I could have an ion cannon to launch at the enemy before he fires a multi missile at me again.
The Ion Storm started to destroy my buildings.... And there goes my power plants, tech center, radar. I managed to rebuild some of them and even build a dropship bay to find out what the hell that could do, but it didn't last long. The ion storm destroyed that too and more power plants. During this process, I've built more harvesters and my economy was responding more efficiently, however, even all repairs and rebuilts weren't enough to hold the massive Ion Storm that never ended. The only AI unit that arrived at my base was a civilian technician who was easily killed by my infantry.
I finally looked at my base with 2 of my refineries damaged, barracks almost destroyed, war factory and construction yards apparently conserved and all power plants destroyed. I noticed I wouldn't survive until I saw the following words in the screen:
"Computer has been defeated!"
I started laughing. It was so weird. I barely scouted AI, I've never sent a single unit at it and I couldn't launch a single superweapon at it.
Do you have a weird story like that when playing a mod? Post it here and share it with us! Last edited by Banshee on Sat Jan 07, 2006 11:04 pm; edited 1 time in total QUICK_EDIT
Ahahaha, great story Banshee! & on my mod AND map, too. Ohh yes, Ionic Frequency has very brutal ion storms, hence its name & the crash site. QUICK_EDIT
i know a hilarious story that i witnessed of my cousin playing un-modded Red Alert 1 against his friend.
my cousin was doing badly. in a last ditch stupid crazy suicidal effort he sold all his buildings and all the little people that resulted he sent them in a whole big parade into the enemies base. they all got slaughtered. all my cousin had left was one little vehicle that was trying to run away. on his way he saw a crate. he went to get it and it was an MCV. he quickly deployed it and built a flame turret. and used it to destroy whatever his friend had left that he was sending over to finish my cousin. his friend at some point would send artillery which outranged the flame turret. so my cousin sold the flame turret and when the artillery moved closer to destroy the headquarters he rebuilt the flame turret and quickly destroyed the now closer artillery. he did this several times. eventually his friend got pissed off and gave up whereby the computer AI took over for him. my cousin then went on to eventually win the match. Its funny but i doubt it to be news... why dosent these things ever happen to me? _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT
well the other day i was having a game against my brother and his 2 friends 3 vs one because i own them all it was a pretty tight match for once then i got it down to 1 vs 1 then just as i was about to finish the last person off i got an internal error after an hour and a bit playing on my mod. I was so angry cause they had owned my conyard and war factory 3 times and i still came back to beat them. _________________ -------------------------------------------------------
I helped with Allies Revenge 2 at one time, and I had a game with Chrono. He wiped out my base quicker than I would like to admit.
However, in a last minute attempt to hold on, I undeployed my MCV and moved it away while he was finishing off the rest of my base.
I held on for an extra 3-5 minutes because of that. I just kept moving my MCV around, while looking back at this continually growing division of Catastrophe and Apocalypse tanks.
Eventually he got me through splitting up the task-force.
I must say, it did give one hell of an adrenaline rush, especially when I noticed when he found me, when his tanks suddenly changed direction and as I moved the turrets moved with me . _________________ If there is a problem on the forums, PM me. QUICK_EDIT

The top one is referred to as a Chrono Vortex, and (if I remember) has a 33% chance of occuring if a Chronosphere is activated. I've got no idea where you're going with the second one, and the third thing is normal. _________________

What a weird story. Next time I play on a map with ION storms, I'll just sit and wait for some technicians to attack (or wait for the storm to beat me). Anyway, TF: ADW pwns. QUICK_EDIT

Exactly the same thing happened to me, within about 15 minutes i was being annihilated by an armada of jackal's and enforcer's. I didnt even have time to think about what was happening.
I've noticed a bug in TS that create4s some funny moments, if you create masses of limpet drones and continually deploy and undeploy them, they will start to vanish one at atime until eventually they will all be gone. QUICK_EDIT
I think the second bug might be a Cruiser disappearing bug right Mice?
Correct, many times my cruisers have suspisiously dissapeared when the enemy was in my grasp There was no way they could have been destroyed, my opponent had no sub pen or airstrip, and my cruisers were far out to sea
However, there is an even weirder bug that occured in one particular game, my brother sent a tanya in an apc to the opponents island via chronoshift, and, as you know, your infantry ominously evaporate into thin air. But the tanya came back, fliting around the map like a mad thing, automaticly blowing up the enemy base... This effect was dubbed "Ghost Tanya" and hasn't happened since. _________________

I just bought RA1, and i started playing in practice mode. I build my base, and since i was yet an unexperienced player, i thought that it was unneccecary to build barracks/turrets since tanks PWN (note: this is NOT true). After the AI has attacked, i was so supprised about his attack power, i made a "backup craft": a transport with an MCV and some additional units. At one of the AI attacks, i lost my complete base, and i was scanning for a landing beach. After a while i found one. I put my craft to the shore and waited 10 minutes for the AI to attack. Nothing. But as soon i unloaded my craft "boom boom bam bam unit luniunit losuniunitunit looost (nothe this is no wrong way of spelling, just EVA confused) You have failed. What an AI! _________________ I use a Unix-based system, that means I'll get laid as often as I have to reboot. QUICK_EDIT
Just like in Total Annihilation. On Island-sea maps it built tons of units that just bumped against the shores. And it also built naval yards on lake maps where the boats couldn't leave. Stupid AI... QUICK_EDIT
