OMC 3: The RA2 7th Place Is...
Hello everyone,
After a long time without a working computer, I've finally managed to get rid of my problems and I'm now able to post the RA2 results. I'd like to apologise once again for the delay. Blame my motherboard.
Today we are finally revealing the score of those who got less than 60% points and also the 7th place. One of the things I could notice is that the RA2 judges were less strict than the TS ones. Also, the ammount of symetric maps for non TS games is higher. One of the Open Map Competition 3 inovations was the "Original Concept" rating. It's suposed to rate how original is the design of the map. Authors who design maps in 'cliche' way (such as placing players in the sides and ore or gems in the center) or similar design to most common Westwood (tournament) maps. Another thing that costs some points is the fact of the map being symetric, because the mapper only designs half or a quarter of the map, which shows lack of creativity. Symetrical maps might look more ballanced, however, they are very predictable, which makes it boring.
Anyway, the 7th place is Bob Markey. He is still starting to create maps for the game. He submitted few maps and constantly visits RADEN. Although his maps might never received any thumbs up over there, they do not lack quality either. At least, it's what he shows with his submission Spider Town.
Spider Town is a symetric, however, a fun map. The maps boasts of several strategical points and a nice team play (2 vs 2) design. Each base has 2 land entrances and one naval entrance. The buildings makes harder the use of most of naval units to attack the enemy base, which gives an advantages for the allied robot tanks. There are 4 cities around the map close to ore areas and you can garrison them to prevent land rushes and capture oil derricks. There are 2 airports in the center. He could have improved the map by detailing the base building area, which is a bit plain. But for one of his first maps, it's a nice job and a great position for a first try. It's hard to see newbies scoring 69,33% in their first map competition. Congratulations, Bob Markey! Here's the details:

And for everyone's curiosity, here's the Red Alert 2 ranking so far:
Tomorrow we'll be revealing the 6th place from the Red Alert 2 maps. The names that are left are: ArissDJ, Aurora196, BrutalAl, Nucl34r14, Oredragon and Piscinex. All of them are old names. Some you might already know from othe games, like Aurora196 who was 6th place on the TS OMC and Piscinex who was 3rd place on Zero Hour. Expect a hard battle and cool maps!
In other news, we haven't received a confirmation from Aaron Kaufman regarding the prizes EA was suposed to have sent a while ago to sponsor this competition. I'd like to ask everyone for more patience, but I'm almost sure he will send the goodies. If he sends it, we'll probably have collectors edition versions of C&C games for the top 2, sound tracks, mousepads and few other goodies for the top 3. Let's pray for the EA Gods ! Once we have a confirmation from them and revealed the winners, we'll contact all top 3 for the prizes. QUICK_EDIT
