Here's some news to keep everyone up to date:

- Prizes will be submitted soon. I need to sort my computer (windows had problems recently) and make sure I've received my wage. Once it happens, I'll be sending the prizes around.

- Google probably banned the ads here after a heated discussion. During the time we've collected $5.41 US dollars for postage payments. Considering that the cost of sending them is probably above $100 dollars, I'll have to pay everything on my own.

- The note above means that I will not organize any future edition of Open Map Competition. I cannot afford to send these prizes around for every edition. I'm a university student who is a trainee in a lab inside my own university getting about $100 dollars per month. And no, my family doesn't pay this kind of thing for me.

I'm aware that many people offered donations through pay pal, including some of the OMC winners, but I don't want any visitor to pay it, specially winners. It's just against my ethics.

Sad

That REALLY sucks... when it comes posting news reguarding the future of a certain contest or money... next time just lock comments, I dont want to see something like this happen with somthing else ever again because of the community(although, you wont be having any more contests/ect anyways....)

I can't really think of anything genuinely profound to say so I'll just type what I think, straight to the point. You've done a hell of a lot to the community, be it the TS OMC, the SHP Builder, PPM, etc. You've put so much time and effort into the community that you deserve to be able to take a break.
I personally feel the OMC was much better when it was without EA's backing, and any future OMCs should follow the same path as the first two. People don't need prizes, they should be satisfied with recognition in the C&C community as an excellent mapper instead, you shouldn't need to put your own money if you can't cope with it financially.
If you step down as organiser of the OMC, it would certainly be a big loss to the community, but there will certainly be a person (or people) who will be able to take your place if you need to focus on less projects.

I have to agree with Clazzy and Tesla7Zap. I didn't do the OMC for prizes.. I did it for fun and as a bit of a challenge. Also gave me an excuse to finish a map to actually be released to the public Wink.

I hope to enter the next OMC, if there is one, to which I hope there will be, prizes or no. Probably without prizes would be better, less competition Wink.

And my offer for the postage still stands, Banshee. Paying postage doesn't change the fact that I won the prize. And I doubt the postage cost would cover the item price, so its still a bargain Wink.
If you need it Banshee, its there.

Banshee, this event began as a simple fun event did it not?  No prizes were involved until EA offered to provide them.  EA has screwed over the CnC community so many times I think no-one cares anymore Rolling Eyes .  Anyways, the fact is, you do not have to pay out for every OMC.  If things are that bad then we could always go back to its original form, just a simple competition and fun, no prizes, except something simple and free.  I offer to let TiberiumSun host the next OMC so you don't have to worry.  That seems to be the trend anyways right Razz ?  OMC1 = PPM.  OMC2 = TUMSUN.  OMC3 = PPM.  OMC4 =  Question .

With all due respect, the prizes themselves make the competition even MORE enjoyable. It’s true that getting recognition for your map should be an adequate award. However, why settle for adequate when there could be so much more. Don’t get me wrong, I would compete in the OMC even if there wasn’t prizes; but to suggest removing them from future competitions just because of a postage problem is ridiculous.

I agree with everyone here that Banshee has done an amazing job for the community and I’m extremely grateful for this site he has provided. But in future a system should be arranged where EA posts prizes directly to competition winners, or a system where competition winners pay for their own P&P is perfectly reasonable.

Those of you who feel the OMC doesn’t need prizes, fine, don’t accept them. But there are some of us who really want the chance to win that Platinum Edition Firestorm, or Red Alert T-Shirt, or an official mouse mat.

Oh no! I just wanted to participate the new OMC! And anyways, if i won something (probaly not) i would not accept my prize. My idea is that's just for FUN! So what about if the next OMC has no prizes?....

Or what if you put up a free site (t35.com has a GREAT offer) full with google ads and put a link here? So anyone that wants to support you, can click the links there. And you got the money.

I don't think that it works that way. The owners of the ads are not stupid.

To organize an event like that, you need to know what are you doing. Python is a way more qualified for this kind of thing than you. He's participated from old events and he saw how things happen in the background.

decide if you want to have an advertisement banner on here and i will pay you for making an advertisement banner for www.underground-exp.com as well as the per month cost of advertising on here if you would want to make money that way ?

granted my site isnt very active but you kno that doesnt really bother me seeing how i wont be shutting it down would be more than likely a long term investment...
