I'm currently using 3ds max 8 for making my buildings/anims, etc... special effects i do with a imageready trial due to lack of real version.

But i heard that ppl are using photoshop or paintshop too for making buildings. i'm a little bit confused now... so please tell me which one is better/easier and why.

okay... I use Photoshop CS2 and Imageready to make all of my graphics... Personally, I think that 3ds Max in combination with CS2 works best, but I'v never tried it, so I cant give an accurate opinion. If you need to get the full version of CS2, send me a PM.

The best combination is 3D Studio Max 8 and Paint Shop Pro X.

Everything you guys see coming from my mod, TAKTICS is started and finished in those 2 programs.

I recommend Paint Shop Pro X over Photoshop for many reasons.

1. It has better palette support and editing.

2. It has scripts. You can hit record, and perform something once on an image, then hit play to apply the same steps on any other images. This is very good for tedious tasks, like resizing multiple images with a Batch Process running your own Resize Script.

3. I got into Paint Shop Pro because of modding Tiberian Sun. It was the recommended editor because of palette support. Olaf author of XCC Utilities recommended it on his page. If you notice XCC can convert from C&C .pal to JASC .pal (Paint Shop Pro)

Of course, using this combination requires knowledge of both programs which Arikado and myself have. Everything from buildings (SHP) to infantry (SHP) to vehicles (VXL & SHP) to the Terrain (TMP), and the in-game GUI (SHP), was modeled and rendered in 3D Studio Max 8. Then I use Paint Shop Pro to not only apply the palette, but I also create palettes with Paint Shop. Most of our mod will use it's very own palettes.

If I had more time (if I wasn't working on TAKT 24/7), I might write tutorials for poeple that really need them. But I know you guys would rather play TAKT instead of reading my tutorials. (I don't have any tutorials written, it's all up in my head.) Very Happy

That's my opinion AND my experience. Hope this helps.

The combo works best. Why? Because, photoshop is good for making textures...and 3ds max 8 is fast when you need to do stuff...

Well, i already thought so, so...

I cannot send you a PM, dats (due to *cough* reasons *read: banshee*) but i'll send you an e-mail. WITH the official headers, this time. (if i can ever get a custom rank, how will "Mod Maker With Warez Programs" stand?)

its definitely FOR ME got to be combo of 3ds max and photoshop, everyone prefers different though, you got to try a cross section of programs like Cinema 4d or softimage XS

Actually photoshop can do that too.

So photoshop has scripts. News to me. Either way, I won't use it. I hate the interface. Worst GUI ever made. Hell, it's worse than Flash's interface. lol!

I'd recommend Blender. Blender has been slowly growing these past years, but it's really stepping up now with crazy things like fluid mechanics (lattice boltzmann. Classy!!!) and hair rendering.

I think that within the next year Blender will be a real threat to commercial programs.

Jesus dont get me started on the Flash GUI... That is the single most annoying interface EVER!. I've gotten used to photoshop.. But I used to hate using it. But working with it for nearly three years has eased the pain.
