Yesterday, I posted the topic linked below:
http://www.ppmsite.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=123038#123038

That has two picture of Kirov rendered by OS: Voxel Viewer.

One of them is the way it traditionally renders the kirov. Each voxel is a cube (6 faces) and each face of the cube has the same normals.

The new, 'shocked', beta tested style is where our voxel to model transformation research has stopped at the moment.

This new render has only one face per voxel and the face coordinates are based on its normal. The result will be more realistic, once it's finished.

However, as you may notice, this is far from being completed. The current flaws involves holes between voxels that makes the unit look transparent on most angles or when zoomed too much.

Once this problem is solved, we'll have to merge neighboor voxels with the same normals to reduce the ammount of polys and optimize the code.

With all the steps above done, we'll be able to produce voxels that can be transformed into models and will have a higher quality than the models from Generals.

Can you imagine yourself creating and editing models with Voxel Section Editor III (or whatever that gets name to) and no longer needing to do any dirt UV mapping torture and other skinning bureacracy, since the voxel texture tool is much more fun Smile...

w00t, making voxels is lots easier.

The voxel texture? Follow the pictures...

Then, save the texture somewhere, edit it and load your edited texture.

Does this mean better voxels or that my new 3d models will suck even more than my current ones?

If i'm right, this means that w3d models could be created with the voxel editor? that's case 2, worser 3d models.

1: The program will turn your painting into texture, to reduce the poly count. At least, that's the plan so far.

2: The plan is to turn voxels into 'faces'. Then, it links the faces, reduce redundant vertices, build textures to reduce poly and etc...
