A long time ago, a game called Star Control was released (also voted as one of the best games ever made), which was awesome, probably a lot more awesome than any other games released now. Anyhow, to cut a long story short this was a space adventure sim in which you could do evil things, or good things to save the Earth from the Ur-Quan, by allying with aliens and discovering the "Precursors". All in all, it was a supreme game, however Accolade, being the evil tyrants that they are made an unlegitable sequel called Star Control 3. Basically this was taken really badly by the creators and the whole fan community as they cut out huge chunks of the story and characters and stuck them together horribly. SC3 had a lot of good race designs, but it just looked wazzy. Anyhow, the makers of Star Control 1 and 2, Toys for Bob, have just announced that they are in talks with Accolade of doing a true sequel to the genre. So if any of you are fans of this game like I am, sign the petition so we can send it off to Accolade! Smile

Also you can download the Ur-Quan Masters, the remake of SC2, which is flawless in my opinion, so if you don't know what I'm talking about play it and enjoy it #Tongue It is really fun and the adventure mode is big. Honestly it really is.

You do know that Accolade has been dead since '99, right?
The new Atari (or Infogrames) owns all of their assets now.

This petition was made to 'impress' Activision to fund/publish it and probably to buy back the rights or name(s). I don't how the Toys for Bob/Accolade 'Star Control' copyright was handled.

Sounds like a worthy cause and is probably the only online petition thats actually worth a damn.

Ah not Accolade, Activision, I get them mixed up #Tongue

Anyhow, I'm sure 1992 qualifies as old for a game, but by god it is still better than some I've seen out today Smile Have you seen the Ur-Quan Masters Arkaido?

Anyhow, a breif history.

In 1990-91, Paul and Reiche III released Star Control 1, basically this was a basic strategy game in which the plan was to destroy the other guy by being the Alliance of Free Stars or the Ur-Quan Heirarchy. These had some unusual races which had their own special abilities, from quirky ones to ones which were made to pulverise the enemy. Following it's success, they decided to make Star Control 2, in 1992, which follows a storyline based on this. Earth was enslaved by the Heirarchy and now the protagonist is sent to go on a huge journey through space, using an alien vessel from an ancient race approx tens of thousands years old, accumulating power and new alien allies to stop the Ur-Quan and stop a new Ur-Quan threat.

In 1995, Accolade had the rights to Star Control, so they wanted a sequel following SC2's success. Paul and Reiche said no, not at this time. Accolade pretty much responded saying "Ahh but we own the rights!" Paul and Reiche responded "Ah but we own all of the characters", "Very well," Accolade replied, "Then we will just leave out the most of all your characters and plotline!". They hired ANOTHER company to do it, Legend Entertainment, who did a big mess up on the game, and was taken harshly by fans. Now the game lies in a coma, until now... hopefully.

You must be thinking about SC1, and lol #Tongue Those were good times. Although I must have been about four or five when I used to watch my cousin and brother play it Laughing

Yeah. Its like an authentic port of the original.
Now if only other fun games were given updates like this to work on newer systems. Oh well, DOS-Box works. Very Happy
