News from EA Front: TFD 1.03 Patch, BfME2 Mod SDK and etc...
Subject description: Those comming soon promises. Can we trust them?
APOC has recently updated the BfME 2 people about the EALA recent activities. While we do not cover BfME 2 here, this post has some interesting points, so I'll quote it here:
I've noticed these abandonment threads popping up here and there and the truth of the matter is, you are DEFINITELY NOT abandoned. Like I mentioned in a previous thread, my attention has been split between BFME2 360 and C&C 3, but let me share some things with you:
-Patch 1.05 for BFME2 is almost going to be BFME 2.5 to a certain degree, the balance is going to be VERY dynamic and will dramatically improve the balance of the game as it is right now. Its tough for me to comment on all the different complaints because everyone has differing opinions. We are doing significant balance work and assessing various bugs and we will deliver this patch later this Summer. It's a big one, a lot of testing is involved. If I could put it out overnight, i definitely would.
I am looking in to the propspect of releasing a beta version of the patch so everyone salivate over it early, but no promises, we'll see.
-I just hosted a massive community summit for BFME2 XBOX 360-stay tuned to our official site for all the coverage if you haven't seen any yet
-Legal is en-route to approving our first official MOD SDK in which we will release our 3DS Max- plug-in, W3D viewer, EXTENSIVE documentation and more. This is going to be huge for modders and it will compatible with BFME1 and C&C Generals+Zero Hour. Look for that next week.
-C&C 3 pre-community planning is going well. I have been spending time on the official C&C 3 boards, its a challenge with my time split but i'm working through it.
-I am also spearheading patch 1.03 for The First Decade, in which we hope to bring online and LAN play to the older C&C games and then some. That will be a late summer release as planned right now.
-With BFME2 we also just launched The Master of Middle-earth Sweepstakes which YOU ALL should enter at www. zboard.com.
- I'll be starting the Challenge of the Mighty ladder contest next month so players on the ladder can start being rewarded.
...and the list goes on. Its tough being a one-man show but I assure you, we are listening, you are being supported and there are a lot of great things coming for this community in the near future.
With undying and passionate support,
APOC"

So, from the stuff above, here's what's interesting for us, C&C fans:
1) While the community took few days to sort the LAN problem on old C&C games from TFD, they might sort it sometimes in the next weeks or months.
2) They'll release their so promised Battle For Middle Earth 2 Mod SDK, which is compatible with old games (including Generals, Zero Hour). This SDK comes with an updated W3D Viewer, a 3ds max exporter and an extensive documentation. Will they include the updated W3D file format? We'll see...
Other than that, it's just a blah blah blah... unless you enjoy Battle For Middle Earth 2.
Anyway, my prays about the BfME2 Mod SDK were heard and it may help some of our internal, unreleased projects here.
And, if anyone is insane to do a sort of Battle For Middle Earth TC for any pre-SAGE game, these tools will help this person too... QUICK_EDIT

Smells like that they might release TibSun source code soon... after year 2021!?
Hope they will listen us (C&C fans) more... and they really got huge money hungry! QUICK_EDIT
Nothing works on me. Except for money and sex. And I want neither from EA.

Because next time, the community won't be abandoned and left to die in the gutter, it'll just be discontinued when C+C 2008 hits the shelves! _________________ #renproj:renegadeprojects.com via Matrix - direct link QUICK_EDIT
You don't have to pay in-house testers to find issues with it?
...and if it doesn't work, just copy-paste your prepared "it's only a beta, after all" response. _________________ #renproj:renegadeprojects.com via Matrix - direct link QUICK_EDIT

They will not release the source code of a game that is being sold in the stores, in the First Decade pack. And if you think that they'll it once TFD is out of the stores, they won't... because there will be another package that will include all games from TFD and C&C 3 later.

May i ask what the point of a beta patch is?
Getting feedback from hardcore fans about the heavy changes done in the ballance of the game, without the typical EALA bureaucracy. QUICK_EDIT
The truth is EA is down a lot of money, they've been reporting huge losses for rather a few consecutive quarters, so they really are going all out, and I believe they will do whatever they have to. Whether this is good or bad entirely depends on your perspective.
Also, they've been touting every BfME II patch as the patch to end all patches. They all just turn out to be measly bug fixes. _________________

uhh, the LAST TFD patch was 1.02, and the 45 something MB it added were the missing RA music files, which AREN'T USELESS AT ALL.
Though 1.01, yeah, that was a POS that added 800 mb too much.

Uh, that's hardly Apoc's fault... they DID hire only one man for this, and that's him. Not his fault. Not like he can personally hire a second guy or something... _________________ QUICK_EDIT
