Holy moly they're doing a Transformers movie? CGI and all?..
Two things I have to say about this..
1) There was already a Transformers movie which kicked ass using painstaking drawing work which a lot of effort was put into, you can see the end result of this and you can't get any further than that.
2) Too bad they forgot the plotline along the way, the Transformers did not come from Mars, they came from Cybertron. The Autobots were fleeing the Decepticons so the Autobots had to crashland on Earth. If they did it like this and had a big war out of it, got rid of the kids and had paranoid governments, and introduce Megatron as a badass it would be the best thing since sliced bread if not better.
I am looking forward to it, but they had better not screw this up (writers and directors in a lot of cases forget or ignore canon). _________________
Heh, I grew up with transformers (perhaps not the original ones, I can't remember that (there were a lot of copies back then)), I still have a load of transformer figures in those big toy boxes in cellars and on top of cupboards that are never opened again QUICK_EDIT
Saw it when it was first leaked and I could've swore I was watching a teaser of an Independence Day or a Mars Attacks sequel. Too much Mars (with a blue sky??) for my taste. Now for some thoughts and other musings:
The new transforming sequence, as seen at the end with the title->date->Autobot logo, looks riduculously complicated. I can't even imagine the toy line even bothering to mimic it.
The Beagle 2 was not a rover. It looked something like this. The writers will probably spin that idea saying it was a government conspiracy or something else half-baked to keep consistency.
Elerium, don't be too harsh on the plot we haven't seen yet. We only see one shadow/silhouette of a bot (its probably the Cybertron form of Megatron). I would like to see a little spin on the story. Maybe have the Autobots crashing on Earth during the movie instead of them just resurfacing from their stasis lock.
On that note, Michael Bay (The Island, Bad Boys II, Pearl Harbor, Armageddon) isn't a director for epic storylines. As long as he has the basics, two opposing robots fractions, that transform into vehicles, fight on Earth with lots of explosions, I'll be content. Chances are, with his movies, there'll be a love story between the human characters. Or maybe even with the bots themselves.
And now for something that's not in the trailer: Bumblebee!
He's not a Volkswagen Beetle, as VW and Porche do not want to be associated with war machines, but a new Camaro.
Some rumors stirring about and around the movie's forums:
The ye ol' 'Transforming Sound Effect' will be used. Probably used once and it'll just be there for the fans.
And the biggest rumor of them all: Optimus Prime will not be a Semitrailer but a Fire Truck. _________________
Here's a review of the movie's script. Take note its not the final draft, but I'd assume since the movie is filming, the core story won't change. Right now, it sounds like a perfect 'no brainer' movie.
The story is basic. An Energon Cube fell to Earth and the Autobots and Decepticons are searching for it while beating eachother to a pulp. Cybertron has been destroyed, and Megatron will appear later on in the film. And of course a silly human love story just for kicks.
Lastly, here's a bigger pic of Bumblebee that was in the site I posted before. Its a full-sized replica used as a stand-in. The CG character will later replace it.
Figured I'd bump this again for those who have been living under a rock.
The new toy line concepts for the movie were leaked, and well.. umm.. interesting 'bots we'll be seeing. More alien than not, which I suppose makes sense. Ironic that the Transformers movie is going through the same fan 'bash' as the new C&C game.
Yeah. They went a bit overboard with the transformations now. Lots and lots of small pieces folding on one another instead of one big piece. The robot forms actually look organic-- especially Megatron.
I'm glad they redesigned the bulky robot forms, even if they do alienate the Tranformers fans. -_-
I don't know if its trying to be realistic or maintain the cheese from the 'toon movie. That traffic control officer spouting '..or we will kill you' is cringe worthy as was that "little kid who sees big scary thing" cliché.
Still.. it doesn't look half as bad as other classic shows that were turned into shitty movies.
Check out the re-edit of the trailer on the main site for a preview of Peter Cullen right at the end. Or at least I think it is Cullen... _________________
