EA has recently released the BfME 2 mod SDK which is focused to catter modders to C&C 3. The contents are:

-> a 3ds max 7 (7.1 patched) W3D exporter plugin that works with 3ds max 8 and a big set of macros and scripts.
-> a bugged new version of the W3D Viewer that doesn't load W3D properly here.
-> AssetCacheBuilder, that seems to work in a DOS prompt mode and generate an assets.dat for the textures, I guess.
-> A fine HTML documentation showing how the stuff works in a very simple way. The Renegade one used to be more detailed.

Have you guys used that? Hacked that? Found any cool tricks with it? or even had problems with it? Share it here!

I had problems with the W3D Viewer and almost all tools complains that my DBGHELP.DLL is old. I've downloaded that from dll-files.com and it seems to be an old version. Does anyone have an updated dbghelp.dll?

Get the updated DirectX or use the one i gave you. These tools use a VERY bad Directx hook that only works with the latest version of DirectX.

As C&C 3 will be released in 2007, I think it will use DX10 instead of 9.0C. Maybe that's the reason why the kit only works with the latest DX version and in the future with 10 also.

Since DX10 will only be for Windows Vista (Blegh!) it will be much longer before DX10-only games are released. The tools are just badly coded, thats all. :p

This is the second time I've heard only Vista will support DX10. So I have to doubt this will use 10 and not 9.

It would be a bad marketing strategy to make it Vista only. Since EA focus sells, I believe it will use some newer version of Directx9 to run on windows XP and Vista.

Vista can certainly run DX9 games as well, so they will most definately be using DX9.

ya it would be wrong of them to use DX 10. I mean C&C 3 is for windows XP right,(ihope).

They will be using dx 9. And unfortunately, we will not be able to use the new SKD from BFME. They will be using a new w3x format instaed of the current w3d format.

And most of the ini files will be replaced with XML files now, which should actually be easier to mod after you get used to it.
