The tiberium!
Subject description: with few nice renders...
Today, the Command & Conquer 3 executive producer Mike Verdu has posted at IGN his developper diary explaining the mysterious tiberium substance. Interesting read with some nice render. Read the article Living with Tiberium
so those hazard troops or w/e they are called are actually useless since they
dont wear masks to protect them from the tiberium particles that float in the air. QUICK_EDIT
indeed anyone know where ya can get those pics without ign's logo, i hate when people do that.
anyway, sounding good and looking good.
the buggy has changed a bit, not much but the flag is gone.
people can say whatever they want tho, i'm loving those those tanks.
the tiberium has changed tho, gues its what u can call adult tiberium _________________

"To the citizen of a Blue Zone, Tiberium provides clean power for flying cars, large homes, and a vast technological infrastructure."
FLYING CARS? <_< WTF! THAT IS SO 1995! QUICK_EDIT
Wow, does anyone else think that the picture above looks alot like the Temprate zones in Tiberian Sun? As in, thats a compliment!
Ive always thought that the terriain in TW looked alittle too "bright and clean" compaired to some of the very dark and infected evniornments in Tiberian Sun, with the dark soil and the seemingly lack of real sunlight. QUICK_EDIT
I hope these features of Tiberium to remain in C&C3:
- We should have blossom trees (so far none has been seen)
- Visceroid, Fiend and floater should return with new friends.
- Tiberium Fona(s)? have they changed a lot during 10 years?
and what are those green "rivers" seen near Tiberium? _________________

To begin with, about 30% of the planet has been rendered totally uninhabitable
It was different ten years ago. It was 90%.
If the Tacitus worked, the planet should be cleaned up completely. If it didn't work, we should be facing something dead with scattered soldiers here and there.
If they are going to say that "the Tacitus worked to some point" (and i can bet money they will), it is a major design flaw, since every third game/movie/book sais that something works to some point and then its all left to one superhero-type person to save the earth. Either that or "the war goes on until somebody figures out how to fix what the Tacitus couldn't".

Red Zones are like the surface of an alien world. Scientists have speculated that Tiberium is actually a terraforming agent for an alien civilization, slowly transforming our world into an environment suitable for beings that have evolved on a different planet. No definitive conclusions have been reached.
The Scrin should appear later. With only 30% of the earth infested with tiberium, there is no reason for them to apear now. Except to speed up the terraforming process, and we all know thats just another cliche from Sci-Fi books.

Tiberium-related climate change has caused an endless cycle of droughts, floods, and severe weather of all types, including spectacular Category 6 hurricanes, tornadoes with wind speeds of 500 miles per hour, and exceedingly violent thunderstorms.
I certenly hope these will be featured in the game...
Melting glacier ice...i thought Tiberium didn't grow on ice, but if they are suggesting global warming...ugh, shouldn't the Earth be flooded?

Tiberium contamination is a fact of life, and thousands die every year from inhaling microscopic crystals that are carried in smog, clouds of dust, and other airborne particulates.
I bet some of those thousands are Zone Troopers, given their lack of any breathing apparatus...They should die of steroids too, you've got to be a pretty bulky person to fit in those suits without leaving (a lot of) extra space...
Alright, those screens do look awesome. Except for the cylinder tiberium [url=http://media.pc.ign.com/media/823/823989/img_3777450.html">here[/url], but ah well, you can't get it all. I'm really hoping those weather effects are in. _________________
I won't deny it, the images do look relatively good..
But.. the theme worries me still. The more I look at these recent pictures (including the previous scans with the GDI stuff) I'm coming to a conclusion..
TW is shaping up nicely.. but.. shaping up for a sequal to Tiberian Dawn, not to Tiberian Sun.
This game could be a sequel to TD, with no problem. It doesn't go back against anything already established in TD, and things like vinifera, viens and fona weren't really introduced.
(Although, hints of viens are actually seen in a few FMV's. Although, I think vinifera was this original type, as vinifera is latin for vines.. seems to describe the viens pretty well, and in the rules, there are comments about vinifera being viens.. but moving on.)
To me, it seems that TW is a homage to TD, skipping most of TS, but keeping the odd things they liked. Almost as if, they're rewriting the storyline so they can keep the good bits, and "improve" the bits which they don't like for one reason or another.
TS wasn't as popular as WS or EA hoped.. but that doesn't mean you just skip the damn thing. I love TS. Its my all-time favourite game, and its storyline was the thing I loved most. And I know I am most certainly not alone in feeling that.
If EA is going to mostly ignore it, but keep a few things in to keep fans content (Like the Juggernaut, which was a redundant unit anyway, had the Hover MLRS been worked properly, to be the artillery unit as intended).. I won't touch the game with a 12-foot pole.
The Predator Tank is a homage to the TD medium tank.
The new Mammoth Tank is a homage to the TD mammoth tank.
How about you pay more homage to TS? Base it on TS, not TD. As TS was based on TD.. you can't really go wrong, can you?
Guard Tower replacing the component tower? (which looks like a Nod Obelisk of Light on a diet with a redecorated head-piece..)
Tanks replacing the previously established mechs? I know the arguements between tanks and mechs, but regardless of that, mechs were well and truely established in TS as the ground unit for GDI.
Not Nod. GDI.
It worries me, because Verdu has mentioned "Tiberian Dawn" far more times than "Tiberian Sun" or "Firestorm". They do exist. They are a continuation of the Tiberian storyline. Include them damn it!!!
And that ladies and gentlemen, is what grinds my gears.
Back to you, PPM in the studio. _________________ If there is a problem on the forums, PM me. QUICK_EDIT

@Johnym: I'm not sure if the planet was 90% inhabitable, I think you messed up with the words of Dr. Boudreau, "In a year or less, our athmosphere would be 100% toxic to humans"
oh, btw, the Tacitus itself isn't anything miracle device that blows all tiberium to hell if commanded. It's a data matrix, containing all posible information about Tiberium. So, you can't say "it worked" or "it didn't work", cause they already cracked it up in FS. Now, TW should tell us what they found from inside it...
oh good, Tiberium is providing power for civilian setlements and flying cars...

NOOOOOOoooooo.....
Hehe, sorry about that. I did mean toxic to humans...dunno what got over me.
As for the Tacitus, by "worked", i ment that they found anything usefull on how to disable the effects of tiberium in it. _________________ -Mad Ivan

Triforce
Didn't work. They now use a slightly altered logo than they did a few months ago...That one could've easily been removed, even if it was just like this one...(well, almost) QUICK_EDIT
This article is INCREDIBLY significant as it mentions tiberium mutation. the first instance of EA attemtpting to follow continuity. _________________ QUICK_EDIT
NOW!!! that's what I'm talking about. I was hoping they would add a green fog/glow to it. i just hope its like that in-game. I must say I'm impressed for a change! _________________ MadHQ's Graveyard - Click here!

but what is the point of that uber-large-tiberium-rock in the pic Kriplespac posted? Is it supposed to be "green cliffs", like in Tiberian Sun? Small, but maybe the first connection between TW and TS? _________________
That's a red zone? there arent any giant mutant monsters with tiberium growing out of their orafices or veins or anything. _________________ QUICK_EDIT

so agreed
seems like they ignore TS/FS on purpose to create new storyline
as THEY see it fits... mtf retards. QUICK_EDIT

Tiberium does grow anywhere, it just doest grow as sporadic in say Siberia then in Pripyat.(I can only wonder what Pripyat'd be like in the Tiberian age...)
And about Global Warming the earth wouldnt be flooded entirely...This would be, though:
United Kingdom-Gone
Japan-ztyping Gone
Korea-Mostly gone except maybe the highest peaks
Most coaslines would be gone, pushed up further. Florida, Bahamas, ect, gone. Remember Continuum had the idea of 'Flooded Los Angeles'? That'll probably here. _________________ PPM's Reichstrollfuherer, 236th Trollenparties brigade. QUICK_EDIT
Wrong! UK would be partically gone, London would be submerged and Scotland would start to look like a chain of island, and the mass of the UK would be shrunk, so we would be safe in the middle etc. _________________ My name is Shadow... I am Lord of the Shadows! NOD rules!!!!
Wow! There's no IGN logo on it! But this may have a picture of what you guys are thinking of:
"What happens if you're exposed to Tiberium? Nothing good. If you come into direct contact with Tiberium, the green matter will start to fuse with your skin within about 20 seconds. You'll feel an intense burning sensation, similar to touching a hot pan or spilling acid on your skin. A full blown infection will manifest if you aren't treated immediately. Your flesh will begin to take on a glassy-greenish appearance as it begins to crystallize; eventually your internal organs will shut down as Tiberium extends rigid crystalline runners throughout your body. If you breathe in the crystal, then it will become embedded in your lungs. You'll lose the ability to process oxygen as your lung tissue crystallizes. Eventually you'll start coughing up blood and will hemorrhage to death."
I don't really think the render is like the description. It says you'll Tiberium-ize and turn Crystalline (I think), not turning into a block of Tiberium/Crystal with your arms gone! _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT
