ED-209
I've started working on a new voxel. as the title says, it will be the ED-209 from Robocop, which ive been watching recently.
currently, ive made it from the feet, up to the "waist", and made a preview frame with those in HVABuilder.
it will be large. really large. not as large as Cole's Tank, but i think it'll be taller.
its equipped with 3 machine guns (2 left, 1 right.) and a missile launcher (right)
however, all pics im basing it on, are different (1 of them has 4 machineguns for example.) so im going with what i think is best, and most closely representing the one in the movie.
im still not sure whether it has a turret or not. i didnt see it moving in the movie, but it looks like it's able to turn. (it even does in the first pic)
im also uncertain about uising the full length of its lower legs. ive read that it could stand up straight doing that, but again, in the movie i didnt see it do that.
all the toes are seperate sections, making the animating process a pain in the ass, but, hopefully, worth the extra effort.
those holes could be because the distance between the voxel cubes is too high or it could be because of the fact that in some voxel viewers or hva viewer versions the individual voxel cubes do not rotate when the sections rotate.

the progress is nice so far, and I like the whole project idea. Shouldn't you move the "hip" lower like you can see in the pictures? _________________ QUICK_EDIT

maybe, but its just a preview pic anyway.
also, ive rewatched the movie (well, actually a fanmade 3D reconstruction. http://www.kraeeranimation.com/roboFullscreen.html )
and saw that not only the turret could turn, but also the legs could adjust in length. (clearly visible when the ED-209 falls down some stairs and cries like a baby. i really laughed my ass off the first time i saw it.)
so i will give it a turret, and use the adjustable legs in the walking anim. i dont think i will be working on it today though. maybe if you guys are lucky _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT

you are doing a very good job Chielscape. I really like the way this is turning out..
Do you think you could do a version in GDI Colours? _________________ "Reality is a lovely place, but I wouldn't want to live there." -Adam Young QUICK_EDIT

... where did my last post go?

@Anthony: i will include several texture packs when its released.
@Yuri: BIG is what i live for. this also makes it more detailed.
well, something like that anyways.
and ive got an update. the animation is complete. well... complete enough for the first release. it still isnt perfect, but now i can focus on getting the turret and the textures done. (as far as i can focus on something for more than 5 minutes )

Some very nice hva work there, Chielscape, I look forward to seeing the rest of the voxel shaping up.
I also like the detail put into the "toes" with them moving down when not against the ground.
My only concern.. is with multi-part voxels, and hva animations, the overlay can be wrong, with the apparent wrong pieces showing over others, so I suggest you try it ingame, to see how it shows. It may show fine, but.. it might not. Try it out first. _________________ If there is a problem on the forums, PM me. QUICK_EDIT
that is just amazing chielscape! the movement is really good and realistic, like somthing from Mechwarrior 4! I can't wait to see your unit with the torso and ACs on, I'll bet it'll look great
I want to build mechs too but I don't know how! how many voxel parts does the [HMECH] have? do we have a tut for building voxel mechs?? QUICK_EDIT

dude, nobody asked for your comments.
everyone knows 3D modelled voxels are better. _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT
chielscape I would watch out! you have just been put on dumb ass list!

Ya he should know he's the one that has made the 3ds2vxl program.

He has every right to post what ever comments he wants regardless to what you think.
He just wants to see more people use his program. because he has spent alot of time working on 3ds2vxl. and he's always trying to improve it and make it better.
You need to apologize for being an ass to this guy. he's a king in my eyes and alot of other people too! he's done more for this community than you will most likely ever do! I wouldn't have mind if you had just said "please don't post that here, Thanks" But you had to be an ass and piss me off! _________________ MadHQ's Graveyard - Click here!

it doesn't matter. i can see how he could have viewed it. it can be annoying if you are making something the real hard way and then someone can just come and make the same thing as you much easier. i've gotten this hostility before from people who make voxels in the voxel editor and cannot use 3d models. it kind of makes them feel like they wasted all this effort for nothing when there is already a 3d model somewhere of what they were making. they feel someone can just steal their thunder.
in some cases it's a tricky situation. if someone says they want to have a certain voxel, and they decide they are gonna have to make it, and you tell them early enough they don't have to because the resources are available somewhere else for them to use, as long as they give credit, then they might be grateful that you saved them the trouble. however if they've already started a significant amount of work on it when you tell them, then they can get really annoyed that you didn't tell them sooner.
some people don't care about that. they want to make it the hard way and be respected for that. it's kinda like you want to be the first guy from your country to get to the summit of mount everest and then right before you climb to the top, some other guy from your country is dropped off at the top by a helicopter and he gets all the credit because nobody pays attention to how people are getting to the goal.
i think people should announce whether they make voxels from 3ds2vxl or not and whether they used someone else's model. plus a while ago my friend was browsing the internet and he came across some voxels and i told him about my program and then he asked if my program was used for these voxels and he probably would have thought it would be really cool if i had said yes except i did not know. i want to be able to impress my friends and other people. yea, but thats whats done so far...
but recently ive discovered the miracles of 3DS Max, and im kinda busy with it. this, however much you might like it, was nothing more than a time-killer, before i learned to use Max.
i might redo this "project" sometime, but not anytime soon. plus, school started. _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT
