IVI Mass Drivers
Concept: Magnetic Mass Drivers function like Rail Guns except for the fact that Mass Drivers propel heavier projectiles while Rail Guns deal with smaller ones (for optimized piercing).
During inital IVI Mass Driver research, whenever Mass Drivers (MD) fired, the air inside the barrel of the MD became electrically charged (due to the Electric and Magnetic field generated by the MD) and turned into superheated plasma. This posed a problem because sustained firing softened the MD barrel and melted it. IVI soon developed a way of preventing this: simply by having the projectile pull the plasma with it (by techniques classified) and deposit it into the air outside the MD. The Brotherhood of Nod's Plasma cannons work in a way that instead of metal projectiles, the Plasma itself IS the projectile.
Mass Drivers have non combat uses too. A Japanese company launched a mining operation on the moon on January 13, 2045. Instead of shipping out their produce by regular Ship schedules, The Japanese company used IVI magnetic drivers instead to propel the loads into space. Special stations caught these loads and sent from there were sent back to the Earth.
