Okay, so I have an idea for a mod, but I neither have any 3d modeling software, nor would I know how to use it. So I don't have any animations for the units I want to make. So I'm looking for somebody to help me out, or point me towards some free software with thorough tutorials. Thanks!

I've also heard blenders supposed to be good, but I really wouldn't recomend it if you have experience using any other program, as the interface is... Interesting... Being so used to the ease of handling in Maya I ditched blender after an hour of trying to select a vertice without sucess.

Hmm, I prefer Cinema 4D to Maya, though only because tis what I know better. :p

For free though, I recommend 3D Canvas.

Thanks for those, but I would like to know which of those is the most user friendly. I just started modding about two weeks ago, so I'm pretty new to this. I need something simple.

Check out the tutorials section here!

best bet to start out simple, learning how the game works.. etc

you can try making voxels which is easy to pick up, and the editor is free!

learning 3d takes a while to get the hang of. there are hardly any programs that are intuitive and super user friendly....so your going to hit up google and look for forums for tutorials that you need.

Actually, I know how (enough of) the game works and how to make voxels; I just need a 3d editor. I know they're not that user friendly, I'm just wanting to know which is easiest.

Or somebody could be charitable and make the models for me, but I'll understand if nobody wants to, seeing as how I can't afford to pay them.

And as a side note, you guys are all really nice. I'm used to the gamefaqs.com forums where everybody is a whiny 12 year old whose only discernable goal is to annoy.

If you have a strong mod concept and really show that you are pushing for effort to get it done..regardless of your artistic skill level, then you will see that people here are very charitable, and will help out with a few things, or join you in your efforts. I doubt anyone here is getting paid to do this. Neutral not to mention is kinda siding on the illegal side.

Gmax... I think would be the first choice... although support has since ceased and my version rejects the key that i got for it.. I dont think it works anymore?. I havent used it since.

there are others..

Anim8tor.

3d Canvas.

3d Exploration

Blender 3d .....if you can figure it out.

And would Gmax be free software? Because I'm poor and cannot pay.

And as for the mod, I have everything but the models. I also know exactly what models I want and what they should look like. All I lack is the means to create them.

And the reason I didn't think people here would do the model for me is because these are all entirely new models, not modifications of the standard game models. I didn't figure a complete stranger would feel like making ~500 frames per unit without some sort of compensation. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong though.

Gmax is free as in no cost, but it has a crap level of support for exporting your work so as not to compete with the real 3D editing products from Discreet such as 3DSMax. Blender is totally free and has far more export options, but its interface is totally different. You'll have to put in a lot of effort to learn at any rate and so I'd suggest you get good at blender which is a price you can afford with more features you will need.

Yeah, Blender worked just fine. Unfortunately, I have discovered that I hate modeling and animating. It's tedious and time consuming, and those of you who do it have my applause. I think I'm gonna try and find somebody to do it for me. So if any of you want to help me out, I would be very grateful. If somebody is interested, I will give them project details via PM. I want this to remain kinda secret until it's finished.

Okay, I've got one modeler on board, but more help would of course be appreciated. Also, anybody else who wants to help with anything at all can PM me. The more help I get, the sooner I can release my mod to the public.

thats what blender does. really, it sucks donkey balls.
technically, maya and 3ds max are the best, but if you dont want to pay 7k, and still stay legal, get GMAX, which is a stripped down version of 3ds max.
