Return of the Dawn Trailer
With the release of Return of the Dawn 2.6 drawing near, I have a small appetizer* for you.
Since Banshee unfortunately didn't get the chance to show it at the community summit, I'm now releasing the RotD 2.6 trailer here.
I apologize in advance for the poor quality of the trailer; this is what you get if someone who never made any kind of video before has only a few hours left to make a trailer, without the knowledge, tools and time to do a good one.
On a small sidenote: This trailer was NOT based on the latest version of RotD 2.6 (didn't have access to that one at that time due to hardware problems), so don't be surprised if there's a small difference here and there between the trailer and the RotD 2.6 release later this week.
*is that spelled correctly? Ah, who cares... Last edited by Reaperrr on Tue Dec 19, 2006 3:37 pm; edited 2 times in total QUICK_EDIT

Nice video, althoug too short and needs less credits time. And the map is awful
too short -> true, but when I realized that it was quite late already, so I left it at that.
credits too long -> yeah, I just didn't know how to add a plain credits image at the end, so I used the TS credits system, which turned out to be quite slow (and with sloppy performance, for some reason).
map awful -> I know, it is just a simple test map and was the only chance to get decent base & battle scenes in time. QUICK_EDIT

and you call this a trailer...
yeah, I call this a trailer
I'll gladly tell you the story why the trailer is like that:
[storyteller mode on]
A few days before the C&C Community Summit, Banshee asked me if I could make an RotD-Trailer for 'the revolution'. Of course I was like "hell yes!". Unfortunately, I never made any kind of trailer (or any video for that matter) before, so I knew that I wouldn't be able to create a masterpiece. On top of that, my system HD had just died on me, so I didn't have access to the stuff on my own comp. When it was the Friday before Banshee went to the summit, I still hadn't recieved my new HD due to some delivery problems, so you can maybe imagine in what mood I was. Only few hours left, zero experience with making videos/recording gameplay, no access to RotD 2.6 beta.
In other words, everything totally sucked.
Then I realised, that I still had at least RotD 2.5 beta and all the new voxels, so at least graphically I could compile at pseudo-RotD-2.6 on my father's PC (the one I'm sitting in front of right now). Next problem was, how do I make an ingame video? Fraps didn't work, so I had to search for another free recording tool. When I finally found one, there was a huge performance problem, recording video while playing the game caused a serious framerate drop, and video quality was poor. So I had to INcrease performance AND encoding quality at the same time. I fiddled with the settings until it was halfway acceptable.
Next step was to actually record some gameplay. After I had done that, there was the question how to cut scenes, how to glue them together, and so on... since there was little time left (also, I was rapidly running out of motivation), I decided to record only short scenes, and later chainlink them with RADTools. The first 3 trailers were just too big, and too boring. When I finally got the trailer in it's release form I realised how crappy & short 'n everything it was (except for the music), but there were only two choices left: release this crappy trailer, or release no trailer at all. As most of you probably know, bad publicity is still publicity, so I decided to submit it to Banshee. Coincidentially, Banshee didn't get the chance to show it (maybe it was better this way), and since several ppl asked me to publish it, I put it online, and here we are.
[/storyteller mode off]
So that's it. I'm aware it is a rather crappy trailer, but considering the circumstances under which it was made, I see no reason to be ashamed of it.
Nevertheless, I'll make a new, and surely much better (no difficult task, admittedly) trailer in the next weeks. QUICK_EDIT
