Subject description: Some of my earliest voxel work.

I actually first did voxelling for Red Alert 2, rather than Tiberian Sun. Why I'm not sure, but I was under the wing of Godwin, a well known voxeller and I did many voxels for the AR2 universe.

However, due to my voxel skills being poor and improving only slowly, many didn't make the final grade, and when I finally started producing good ones, a change of management meant my voxels were lost, and no longer considered.

I'm unsure whether to release them, as, I don't know whether I should being themed for AR2, and I don't know if they would actually serve any purpose out in the community.. but I still wanted to show some of the designs off.

So, have a look, see what my early work was like, and if a lot of people would like them, maybe they'll be released.
(BTW, this is only a handful of... 30+ AR2 related voxels)

Yes, I know I should have some ingames.. but I didn't take them for all the units, but I'll see what I can find.

I also helped out with Chrono on some of the ideas, for example here the Phoenix bomber.
The Genesis super-unit, the Bilskinir was my idea, whether the idea continued or not, I'm not sure.
A concept for Genesis, having holographic units was also an idea of mine, one I think Chrono liked, and I worked hard on trying to get to work, but kept coming across bugs. Basically, think of an aircraft carrier, which produced units which had no 1 armour, and a dud weapon. They were great fun to play with, however the holographic units would remain after dieing.. it was weird.
Also, the 3 cores of Celeste, I had 3 names which Chrono liked, and actually did name them as I'd suggested, but again, whether that was held or not, I'm not sure. Ah well.. I have fond memories #Tongue

You're right, they are a bit crap in comparison to what you do now. The second Phoenix design and the Scrin tank are nice, though.
I personally never liked the colour scheme for the Genesis, though, since it always made the voxels look crap.

Some of them are rather decent, but they do show their age. Still, a pack of them could probably find some use.

I agree with Rattus they are like retro but still making them for public use would be great Smile

I had no idea you at one time were making vxls for ar2.

would have been nice to see some more units in that mod. It just is far to basic and slow for my liking any more.

Put them up for download or pm to me if want. I would like to have a look at them. and would mostly code them in for my own little personal fun. Razz

Yeah, more or less no one knew, because none of my voxels ever made it.
Still, I got on great with Chrono and Godwin, and I learnt a lot under them. I owe them a lot.
Godwin was one of the greatest artists I knew, and he had so much depth behind the units he designed, something I tried to achieve as well.
I was lucky though for this to be where I learnt to voxelise, as most have AR2 voxels had next-to-no texture at all, which makes things very easy, and the designs were quite basic, in that I learn to play with normals a lot easier too (again thanks to Godwin for the normal teachings)

I've compliled a bunch of worth-while-ish voxels for those who want them.
Please note that, a lot have really pitiful/no normalisation work on them, and some of them are also incomplete. But I don't intend on working on them again.

Some unit explanations:

Hologram2 - The flying Genesis Hologram emitter. I thought logically this would allow an increased range of the hologram units. It spawned dud enforcer units. The logic was buggy, and I never got around to fixing it.

Jyana + Drones - Basically a hovering Aircraft carrier.

Radtnk/Radhvr - This was a concept for a forgotten technology of both sides. When you captured a particular building, you would get one of these two units, Genesis got the hover (and weaker) variant, Nemesis got the more powerful tracked version

Hvrstrx - are a bunch of hovering cargo carriers for Genesis.

Hawk Tank - a tank which used the charge-turret logic. Was quite a nice effect. Fired an energy plasma cannon.

Found both the Genesis Carryall variants (thought I'd lost the other one)

units.zip - contains mostly civilian units, however it also includes an Ice-Blink transport as well as a proposed Nemesis MCV (I thought I'd lost that! #Tongue).

bilskinir.zip - contains 3 of the different variants I did for this unit.
Genesis Super Unit. Its main weapon was a giant Aureon crystal, which could have an ID4 style effect #Tongue It could fly over a target and completely vapourise it while also releasing a shockwave. It was also equipped with missiles for use against units.
An idea Chrono wanted, was for it to deploy/move down when it was above water, and discharge a huge amount of energy into the water and take out huge fleets of Nemesis ships.

I think that is most of the awkward ones explained. Some of the old zip files may also have unit descriptions too, not sure.

So do what you will with them, improve them as you so wish, but just give the credit and enjoy! Very Happy

Sweet pack Muldrake. These are actually quite useful in design.

BTW, you might have answered this, but will you make RA2 vxls any time soon?

Probably not. RA2 although I did start off public modding there, TS is my home and its what I love.

And I no longer have RA2, I had borrowed it, and the only reason I had it for so long was because my friend forgot I had it #Tongue.
I have no intention of getting RA2 again, unless some of these pwnage mods come out, like Exodus, RotS or any Tiberian related mods, like Tiberian Conflict, if its still being produced.

I love the unconventional designs that AR2 brought. simple yet still very unique.

Well these were some of the very first voxels I made.
After this, I started work on a few Retro voxels (several of which you guys haven't seen yet, but they're there.. waiting for whenever I get a chance to update retro #Tongue)
Its all been a learning curve, and these were at the beginning, so obviously they won't quite match some of my more recent work, but I still think some of the ideas and designs weren't so bad.

And thanks Gosho, but these really don't deserve a spotlight, that plus they're in the media hut, not the voxel forum, and I think they'd be better off staying here.

I like the Story you tell with these packs you posted here Muldrake.. It really sheds light on the Evolution of a modder Smile

I think the "Scrin Tank " would be my favorite out of all of these
