If any of you subscribe to the Gametap service they recently added the original Command and Conquer, as well as the first Red Alert to their game list.

This is useful is you don't have TFD since getting those oldies to run on Windows XP is a pain.

For me it's another reason I pay for Gametap.

frag that. I heard that if you stop paying them, you lose all games you get on gametap. Seriously, it's more like getting a game from a library than buying one, only they let you pay for your library card every month.

And getting the classics to run on XP is really simple if you just follow the Planet C&C guide. Which has pictures and all.

As Ghorkov said in his TFD review at planet C&C:

David "Ghorkov" Rees wrote:
A brief digression: There is a reason Valve's Steam was so successful: you have to use it if you want to play any Valve game. If Steam usage was not mandatory to play Half-Life 2 and CounterStrike-Source, then I doubt the current userbase would be anything like what it is today.

Gametap, however, is optional; there is no advantage to a subscription based service other than an initial attractive price. Like Napster2Go, as soon as you stop paying the monthly fee all your games/music (delete as appropriate) are gone. This is why I will continue to buy my games and music on a medium I know won't screw me around. If you're reading this, you're fairly intelligent, so don't support Gametap's business model. If it becomes successful, other publishers will cotton-on and make their releases only available on a subscription basis.

Why?

Their setup program leaks sensitive material to their technical support, guess where thats based people.

Right here in Eastern Tennessee. I love hearing the storys of revenge on the company, and on the people that call in from their Technical support guys. =3
