Subject description: Cluster missiles with Lasers

Is it possible to make an airburst weapon (such as the multimissile) deploy a quick blast of lasers instead of missiles or conventional projectiles. Also, is there any sort of setting i nthe game where you can make airburst projectiles fly in a specific direction upon ejection of an airburst missile? IE missiles will fly fowards at a 45 degree angle.

IIRC, the airburst weapons automaticly 'search' a target in their range, and if they cant find a target, they just hit the ground. This is why the cluster missile is very effective vs large group of units, because the clusters lock on the ground units.

Ive tried to make a laser MM, but the lasers only hit one part of the ground. It was very effective though!

this can be easily fixed

try making it so that your "laser" weaponry uses an invisible projectile
make this projectile a clone of the standard multi missile cluster projectile
set it's image to inviso

set speed to 100, ROT to 100, acceleration to 100

make sure your weapon has the appropriate laser tags as well

haven't tested it out, but it should work

Interesting this should come up; I tried to make a "prizm cannon" for TS by making a big laser airburst into smaller ones. I never quite got it, though..

Remember to make the airburst work, you need to give the weapon to a non-buildable unit (such as the MultiCluster on the WEEDGUY).
I would get the main laser going, but I never seemed to get the mini-airburst lasers to come out of it. They worked, but they had no image though.

so you did have spread damage ?
but no visible mini-lasers ?

The Airbursting lasers dont work. The gam simply crashes when I build the unit even with everything correctly coded.

yea you make 2 units:
-the one with the REAL weapon
-then a non-buildable unit, and give it the [airburst] weapon as well. This unit has NO PURPOSE other than to make the weapon work OK.

Sorry I can't affirm exactly my results or post the code I used, it was a little while ago that I did this (in fact, it was the very first subject I posted on tiberiumsun)
When I have some time I'll dig it out and test it again (tomorrow maybe)

Maybe its a limitation in the engine. Lasers cannot lock on to a target after a certain rate of turn or the accelration and rotation speeds cannot be equal.

Airbursting Lasers dont work sorry I have tried earlier.

First Test: Obelisk beam with generic rocket weapon airburst when it hits ground works
First Result: It spawned a rocket from the point where the obelisk hit and flew in random direction

Second Test: Obelisk beam with LaserFire2 weapon airburst, DID NOT WORK
Second Result: CRASH!, Internal Error!

Third Test: Obelisk Beam with Railgun, DID NOT WORK
Third Result: Same as Second: CRASH!

And yes I added all the airburst weapons to a dummy unit.
I also tried with the firestorm code Splits=yes and RetargetAccuracy=number% but it did not help. Cluster= was set to 5 at the time I did this.

I did not test if it worked with cannon weapons but I belive it should.

It should however be possible to do Grenades and stuff that shoots out Plasma Balls (Cyborg Commando weapon). Or Sharpnel grenades that shoots out deadly spikes (Ive seen that in a mod but I dont remeber what mod that was Sad )

One more thing Airburst does not need to be a weapon that detontates in the air like Cyborg Reaper or Multi Missile SW. It can detonate at ground level and still shoot out sharpnel (AirburstWeapon=)
