Report of C&C 3 Community Summit 06 from Assassin!
Subject description: 3 months later, he did it! Interesting for Cabal fans.
Since the change of the gaming plans from Gaming Source, our friends at CnC Source are having constant server problems. So, it's being hard to post a news about them because when I try to do it, they go offline. Luckly, they are still online this time, so I'll use this oportunity.
Just like me, Assassin, webmaster of CnC Source, came to the C&C 3 Community Summit back in december and I had a pleasure to meet him there (and also some trouble to understand him, since he speaks a bit too fast for me). Anyway, he has recently posted a report of his experience in that event and everything he learned on it. He also posted pictures of the event, including one where I was clearly jetlagged due to the 6 hours time zone difference and the lovely 19 hours long flight. Yea, I knew I wouldn't escape it . He brings the most complete report in terms of C&C3 info, some Tiberian Sun Rising exclusive information and the reason why Cabal got cut from the game.
You can start HERE and there are 5 pages to read, so it's a lot of information, for sure, and a lot of pictures as well. Here's a quick quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Next we discussed Cabal I wanted to know why Cabal was killed off. In the pod cast interview Mike Verdu had said there were many stories left to be told and Cabal was a story line that wasn’t going to be told yet was the conclusion. But he didn’t hint whether they intended on telling it in the future or not but that Kane was the main villain in C&C3 and Cabal just didn’t fit as the main villain. Which I agree in that respects, but talking with Jason he explained there were many reasons why Cabal was dropped and this was discussed in great detail within EA. One reason was as Mike said, Kane is the villain of C&C there is no replacing that and Cabal just didn’t fit that role for this C&C game we needed Kane back. Another reason was that a very small amount of people actually played TS Firestorm all the way to the finish. So there aren’t a lot of people that are aware of the full Firestorm story. Which they have the sales figures so they’d know and speaking with many community members not a lot have finished Firestorm which was disturbing. So a contributing reason to drop Cabal was in the interests of keeping the story where people knew what was going on, so they continued from Tiberian Sun. But Cabal hasn’t been completely ignored, neither has the Forgotten. C&C3 contains a Data Node feature like Renegades, where it stores information on story, units, etc Jason said story’s explaining what’s happened with Cabal and the Forgotten would be told through that feature of the C&C3 menu as well as a lot of Cannon was going to be included in there for those hardcore fans wanting to know the finer details of the C&C story."
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As you see, they've took Cabal and many of the Firestorm elements due to lack of sales. It's really a pitty to see this kind of attitude, although I agree that Firestorm campaign missions were boring, because most of them were solo missions... kinda lacked base building, which is something that suits better on a FPS game, honestly. Anyway, it's really bad to see this kind of thing because bad sales isn't a reason to create an inconsistence in the game. Although Kane is a much better villain than Cabal, and removing Cabal in the way they did isn't exactly inconsistent, ignoring many factors of the Firestorm campaign as they did ruins the storyline.
But, back to the original subject, it's a great article and a must read one. Check it out! For those wondering why I ignore certain IGN/GameSpot articles and promote fan articles instead, I'll go straight to the point. Fans's commitment are to other fans, unlike these big sites that have contracts with EA and other sponsors or are not entirely in touch with the C&C cannon as we are. They usually write articles with many redundant info, describing what they see and hardly motivating the fans to question the features of the game. And I don't think they have the same passion that a true C&C fan would have when writing an article like this. So, that's my personal opinion. What is yours? Share with us. QUICK_EDIT
sooooooooo lets get this straight if we're playing CnC3 we have to forget the firestorm story ...oh man i loved the jugg in that game oh well, and yet another thing to add to the list of why EA riped off the tiberian universe.
so much for keeping to the story line huh ? _________________ Link to a document to see what mods i have and/or working on or working with

It's such a tragedy that CABAL is no more. And Kane is definetelly not a villain. Sheesh
Hardly. Its rather lame how a guy who has been vaporized by a lazor(or crushed by rubble), impaled by a giant metal rod, and had half his face burned, is still alive. Yet Yuri is considered corny by the Tiberian fans. Ok, Yuri was a little overdone, but thankfully he isnt surviving everything thrown at him. It seems you can do anything to Kane and he is still kicking, of course this is not corny.
And CABAL's death is not tragic. It, like the Scrin, is taking away from the purpose of Tiberian. GDI and Nod. Should always have been that way, no Scrin, no CABAL. _________________ PPM's Reichstrollfuherer, 236th Trollenparties brigade. QUICK_EDIT
Actually... Kane probably would've been dead after TS if it wasn't for CABAL (CABAL recovered Kane's body), so Kane would've been in a sequel to TS, one way or another.
Still, I think Kane's presence in C&C3 came with a couple plot holes (which could've been prevented without having to scrap Kane). _________________ QUICK_EDIT
If you think of Nod as a terrorist organisation, yes, it's impossible.
But the Brotherhood is much, much more. They are a secret society with great wealth, knowledge and resources. They own cutting edge technologies, such as cloning, stealth, cybernetics, advanced computer Ai building, tiberium-related researches etc. They controll vast populace, have an elite core of toughened maries and top-knotch generals. They can surelly make a computer such as CABAL, which is so powerfull and humnaoid, that it can rebel.
Kane himself can survive many things thanks to several factors - cloning, time travel, being an alien/having scrin technology, being immortal etc. (And Yuri isn't seen dying yet :p ) QUICK_EDIT

They have shit generals obviously if they get their asses kicked two times by GDI, and they cant hold themselves together everytime the 'Messiah' dies. They are nothing but a totalitarian terrorist state. Since when did Nod have cloning techology? GDI has computer technology much better then Nod if they dont have to worry about EVA going astray. And how can Kane go back in time? _________________ PPM's Reichstrollfuherer, 236th Trollenparties brigade. QUICK_EDIT
Desu, you are not westwood and you cannot say what the purpose of the universe is.
The image of Nod and Kane (and to an extent CABAL) is to be a mysterious, undying entity.
Also you seem to want to kill off Kane but keep Nod vs. GDI as the 'purpose' of the game? Not really possible is it.
Kane is the single divine body that resolves all internal conflict within Nod. The reason Nod fucks up without him and nigh on kills itself is that there is no God figure to choose there path, as it's never been clear what Kane intends to do it's impossible anyone other than him could clearly state an agreeable direction.
Simply put, Nod is pretty much a group of mindless sheep.
It'd be GDI vs. Multiple tiny sub-Nods if Kane was killed off.
Also all games are corny. No one cares. QUICK_EDIT
